  2. 1. Plants use energy from the Sun to convert water and carbon dioxide into foods • a. The foods contain carbon from carbon dioxide

  3. Energy & Carbon -As one organism becomes food for another organism, the carbon-containing materials are passed along

  4. Carbon Dioxide Cellular Respiration Energy & Carbon -When organisms use the food for energy, carbon is converted back into carbon dioxide, to be used by plants for Photosynthesis

  6. The Water Cycle

  7. 1. Evaporation Evaporation is the process in which liquid water changes into an invisible gas called water vapor.

  8. 2. Condensation 1. Evaporation Condensation is the process in which water vapor in the air changes back into tiny droplets of liquid water when the air cools. They are so small that they remain suspended in the air as clouds or fog

  9. 2. Condensation 1. Evaporation 3. Precipitation Precipitation is the process in which the tiny droplets inside clouds combine to form large drops. These drops then fall to Earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.

  10. 2. Condensation 1. Evaporation 3. Precipitation 4. Run Off Run Off is water that runs along the surface of the ground into lakes and rivers.

  11. 2. Condensation 1. Evaporation 3. Precipitation 4. Run Off 5. Ground Water Ground Water is water in the soil

  12. Water Cycle Lab Activity As you sit and wait during the lab activity, read pages 48 – 50 in your textbook. Answer the following CYU questions: 1, 3-6

  13. What did you find out? • How does this activity model the water cycle in nature? • Which part of your model played a role that is similar to the role of the sun? • What are the uses of water in the world? • Draw and colour a labeled diagram, showing the water cycle you observed in this activity.
