  2. Use of E-Learning PrinciplesClark, R. C., & Mayer, R. E. (2011). E-learning and the science of instruction: Proven guidelines for consumers and designers of multimedia learning (3rd ed.). San Francisco: Pfeiffer. • Use Contiguity Principle throughout – use audio to explain principle, show abbreviated text to reinforce. • Also apply Personalization Principle through a conversational tone. • Use Segmenting Principle to chunk the presentation into bite-sized lessons. • Use few graphics so as to avoid distraction in the learning process as explained by Coherence Principle #2. • Give learner control to pace the lesson, applying Pacing Control.

  3. Tutorial Length Aim to keep tutorial at about 10 minutes in length, breaking up items every few minutes to keep attention. Use callouts and animation during lengthier slides to engage learner.

  4. Tutorial Objectives Describe objectives for video tutorial via voiceover and reinforce with text. Use call outs to highlight objectives. Upon completion of this Getting Started video tutorial, participants will be able to: • Locate tools and resources for the Online Mini MBA program • Articulate the guidelines for discussion board posts and self tests • Locate and complete a Participant Profile • Dictate the technical requirements for the program • Locate Blackboard resources • Cite your program contact person at the University of St. Thomas

  6. Item #1: Discussion Board Guidelines Describe guidelines for appropriate discussion board posting via text and voiceover. Use callouts to highlight guidelines. Slide text: For each discussion board question, participants are expected to make: • one quality post in response to the question and; • two quality responses to posts from your cohort members

  7. Item #2: Self Test Guidelines Describe guidelines for self test completion via text and voiceover. Slide text: • Multiple attempts at self test questions are allowed • The self tests serve as a tool to evaluate your comprehension of the session concepts • Your successful completion of the program is not determined upon the self test scores, rather they are a way for you to assess your own understanding

  8. Item #3 Profiles Describe purpose and process for completing and submitting a participant profile via text and voiceover. Slide text: • In order to facilitate introductions between cohort members, download and complete the participant profile • Profiles will be made available in the “Participant Profiles” folder within the Getting Started folder

  9. Item #4 Tips for Being a Successful Online Learner Describe tips in detail via voiceover, use abbreviated text to reinforce. Use animation to layer in tips. Slide text: • Plan Your Time • Log on to your course frequently. • Participate and Communicate • Use the Session Checklist to Guide Your Study • Take Advantage of Your Reading Assignments and Case Studies • Contact Your Program Manager when you have Questions about the Course

Item #8 Getting Started Folder Using voice and text, tell participants where they can find the tutorial information and other resources in the Blackboard module. • All of the information provided in this tutorial as well as further resources are available in the Getting Started folder in Blackboard. • Feel free to revisit the information for further assistance.

  14. Item #9 Survey Create survey in Articulate to gauge learner success of tutorial. This will ensure understanding or provide feedback if changes are needed. Include questions about all objectives. Deliver survey at the end of the video tutorial.
