Well, speaking any language could only happen if you know how to pronounce each word, know all the expressions and are aware of all the features of pronunciation. And, all thanks to the digital world, the learning of any language is made easy through various online lessons and tutorials. English listening online can help you become familiar with the language credited to be the most spoken one on the planet. Even though you can learn the language by reading, listening has its own importance, for instance, you can’t learn about intonations through listening, but... Hang on... do you know what intonation is, what is its importance and how it impacts on speaking of the language? No? It’s the feature of pronunciation that tells you how to say something, or in other words, you can say that it is the way voice rises and falls to lay emphasis on something.

  3. There are two basic patterns of intonation in English, which can be learn only if you have paid enough attention to hearing each word of every line. The two patterns are: falling intonation and rising intonation.

  4. Falling intonation – This is used when something definite has to be highlighted and while doing so, the voice in this intonation falls at the end of the sentence. The best example of this intonation is the wh- questions, like - Where do you work?, Whose wallet is this? (Downward arrow here represents a fall in voice) Rising intonation - In this intonation the voice rises at the end of a sentence. This is very common in yes-no questions, like : are you ok? Have you completed your homework? (upward arrow here signifies rise in the voice) While some of the intonation can be explained in writing, many can’t and so, for learning about intonation it is essential to listen to the language, which can be done through English listening online. By listening, a lot of doubts about various expressions get cleared. There are many ways of saying a same sentence, for example in the sentence – ‘Do you want to go there with me?’ The rising intonation on the word ‘me’ explains surprise and makes the person in question, feel important. But, if in the same sentence the rising intonation is on the word ‘there’, then it emphasizes the place in question.
