  1. International Union for Conservation of Nature By John D. & Naveen P.

  2. What is the IUCN? • The IUCN is also called the International Union for Conservation of Nature. • The IUCN helps endangered animals from all over the world. • It is always there for animals in need of conservation. • Some animals that the IUCN helps are the, lets say the African lion or the Siberian Tiger.

  3. Current Conservation Efforts • IUCN helps develop conservation science. • Manages field projects all over the world • Brings together people from different places and develops implement policy laws and best practice. • Some examples of what they’re doing are: • Saving wetlands to fight climate change by partnering up. • Searching for the black-backed meadow ant and saving their habitats from being destroyed.

  4. Where the IUCN Works • The International Union for Conservation of Nature Works Global. • This means that they work all over the world • Some places they work at are pretty much all of Africa, north and central America the Caribbean, South America, West Asia and middle east Asia, the Mediterranean in Europe and even in the oceans. • Like I said, The IUCN works Global!!!!

  5. The Mission of the IUCN • The mission of the IUCN is “To influence, encourage, and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable” • This practically means that the mission is to help societies all over the world conserve nature and makes sure that any use of natural resources is sustainable.

  6. History of Organization • The International Union for Conservation of Nature was founded in October 1948 as the “ International Union for the Protection of Nature or (IUCP) following an international conference in Fontainebleau, France. • Then after a few or more years the IUCP changed its name to “International Union for Conservation of Nature”

  7. The IUCN Budget • The budget that the IUCN gets is pretty much based around the six commissions. There are not only one but six commissions as you call it, that are funding the IUCN. • The six commissions are CEC, CEESP, CEL, CEM, SSC, WCPA. • The IUCN receives a limited amount of core funds from the commission operation fund.

  8. The IUCN Budget (cont.) • If it wasn’t for these commissions, the IUCN probably wouldn’t be working worldwide. • This means that they wouldn’t have enough money to help animals from all over the world. • They wouldn’t have enough resources either. • Eventually this organization would become useless. • They wouldn’t have enough money for resources and such.

  9. Celebrity Supporter • One supporter of the IUCN would be Bindi Irwin. She is a Global ambassador for “ Wildlife Warriors Worldwide” and she also helps other organizations like IUCN and others. Her father was Steve Irwin, who was called “Crocodile Hunter” by a lot of people.

  10. The Black-Backed Meadow AntHabitat • Ants like the Black-backed meadow ants mostly live underground or in wood also. • They also live in tunnels, trees or in certain plant. • They mostly live near wood, they’re called “Wood Ants”. • These ant’s habitat are in warm climate regions. • They live near dry heat land and meadow land, and sunny sheltered lands also sometimes.

  11. More about the Insect • Ants like the black-backed meadow ant live in colonies. It’s the same as when birds live in flocks. Except this is for ants. • These ants are amazing creatures. • They can carry up 10, 15, or even 25 times their weight. Freaky right. • This ant is brown, rust, dull drab color, or even purple or very dark blue.

  12. Why should We save these ants • The black-backed meadow ant is almost extinct for many reasons. • These ants are very weak compared to predators, so they are very venerable. • These ants are venerable to Birds, anteaters, lizards and more. • This might seem unbelievable but maybe even humans sometimes step on them without even knowing so. • These ants are very special and shouldn’t be extinct because of us and others and if these ants die it might kind of mess up the ant colony and that is better off not happening.
