Week of November 4th-8th Mrs. Gibson’s Classroom News • Important Dates to Mark on Your Calendar • November 6thIdent-a-kid. • November 6th PTA Family Night @ Hawthorne’s • November 11th Veterans Day. (no school) • November 14th Report Cards go home. • Homework for the week is….. • Read for 25 minutes each night • Math homework due on Friday November 8th • Word Study due one week after homework is given. Homework should be turned in on Monday or Tuesday of the following week. Literacy-This week we will begin our character study unit. We will focus on how characters respond to major events & challenges. Word Study- Word study groups 1,2,3,and 4 will complete a short and long e sort. Group 5 will complete a wa, al, and ou, broad A sort. Math- This week we will focus on does order matter in addition? We will begin exploring the concept of number strings. Addition equations with multiple addends. Students will be introduced to two math workshop games beat the calculator, and close to 20. Writing- We are focusing on how authors revise their writing every step of the writing process. We will continue planning out our first realistic fiction story and work on the beginning of our story. Science- This week we will focus on wind. Specifically how to measure wind direction, and speed. We will watch several videos on wind instruments and also create our own wind tools. • 11/4 – SLT @ 5; PTA Board @ 6:30 • 11/6 – Ident-A-Kid • 11/6 – Staff Meeting • 11/8 – HCE Spelling Bee • 11/11 – HOLIDAY – VETERAN’S Day • 11/14 – Report Cards Sent Home • 11/15 – Ribbon Day • 11/15 – Fall Picture Make-up day • 11/15 – PTA Movie Night • 11/20 -- Pretzel Day (money due by Mon. Nov. 18th) • 11/21– PTA Family Night Bingo • 11/22– PTA Family Night Bingo
