Integrated core-pedestal-SOL modelling for H-mode ITER scenario including impurity (Be, C, W, …)

This paper presents a study on the integrated core-pedestal SOL modelling for the H-Mode ITER scenario, specifically focusing on the inclusion of impurities such as Be, C, and W. The paper compares core parameters, impurity distribution, and fluxes between simulations conducted with COREDIV and JETTO. It also explores the effects of impurities on fusion performance and divertor loads in scenarios with different pedestal heights.

  3. ITER scenario with C impurity (JETTO) • Reference ITER H-mode scenarios: JETTO with GLF23 / EPED-SOLPS Ipl = 15 MA, Btor = 5.34 T, Paux = 33 MW (NBI) + 20 MW (ECRH), H98y=0.85 • Low desnity case: <ne> = 7.45e19 m-3, ne_ped = 6.12e19 m-3, Te,ped = 6.7 keV, Ti,ped = 7.5 keV • High density case: <ne>=11.e19 m-3 ISM WS, March 2013

  4. COREDIV: match of core plasma parameters simulated with JETTO (low ne_ped) • H98y, <ne>, Paux, ... taken from JETTO • Match of ne(r), Te(r), Ti(r), Zeff... • Carbon is replaced with Be and W • Transport of impurities is equal to transport of main ions COREDIV JETTO/GLF23 ISM WS, March 2013

  6. COREDIV / JETTO comparison ISM WS, March 2013

  7. COREDIV: match of core parameters simulated with JETTO (high ne_ped) • H98y, <ne>, Paux, ... taken from JETTO • Match of ne(r), Te(r), Ti(r), Zeff... • Carbon is replaced with Be and W • Transport of impurities is equal o transport of main ions ISM WS, March 2013

  8. COREDIV: effect of pedestal on divertor parameters and fusion performance (preliminary comparison) ISM WS, March 2013

  9. Future work 1. Modification of COREDIV to include heat and particle sources and transport from more advanced core simulations (JETTO, ...) 2. Effect of Be, He, W on fusion performance and divertor loads in scenarios with different pedestal height: - tolerable impurity concentration / transport? - impact on divertor?
