  2. early life Lorenzo di Cione Ghiberti was born in Pelgao, near Florence, Italy, in 1378. He was well-trained by his father, Bartoluccio Ghiberti. His father was a well-respected goldsmith in Florence. At 14 years old in 1392, he was accepted to the "Silk and Gold". In 1398, he passed his examination to become a guild master goldsmith. In 1400, he traveled to Rimini and received further training as a painter.

  3. career Ghiberti first became famous when he won the 1401 competition.He worked with Filippo Brunelleschi, he went to Rome to study architecture leaving Ghiberti to work on the doors himself. It took Ghiberti 21 years to complete these doors. In 1425 he got a second commission.

  5. End Life • Ghiberti was also a collector of classical artifacts and a historian. • He didn’t finish Commentary and contain an autobiography. • Ghiberti died in Florence at the age of 77 years old.
