  2. Review of UPSE VMG • Vision The UP School of Economics as the leading institution in economics education and economics research in Southeast Asia. Our goal over the medium term is to “recapture” and maintain this position.

  3. Proposed activities 1. Activate PCED-supported institutes: ISIP, PIPER 2. Improve incentives: • Increase the prize for faculty international publications; • Support grad students’ participation in international conferences; • Encourage grad paper presentations at PES • Data depository 3. PRE: Reconstitute editorial board; hire full-time managing editor; systematize refereeing process 4. Post DPs/PRE in selected online research archives. 6. Partnerships in sponsoring public forums on economic issues (e.g. Ayala, PES and others such as ADB)

  4. What have we accomplished 1. Activated PCED-supported institutes: ISIP, PIPER • First Annual PIPER Policy Forum on 16 January 2012 • ISIP collaborative faculty research 2. Acquired a start-up fund of P5M for the UPSE Faculty Incentive & Research Endowment, thanks to the alumni and batch ’86. • The program will initially focus on (i) awards for international publications and (ii) travel grants for graduate students’ participation in international conferences 3. Partnerships in sponsoring public forums on economic issues • Renew MOA with Ayala Corporation

  5. What have we accomplished 4. Pursued upgrade of the School’s physical facilities and equipment* • Major renovations include the UPSE auditorium and roof rectification and water-proofing of roof deck (first half of 2012) • Renovation of Computer Room (2011) • Improvement of Rooms 204 and 205 (2012) • Renovation of Room 127 (2012) • Establishment of Financial Center at the 3rd Floor of Library Bldg - Union Bank

  7. Plans for the next year to 2015 • Series of activities (seminars, forums, fund-raising events-50M endowment, etc.) leading to the 50th anniversary • Faculty Committee: Esguerra, Arcenas, de Dios, Capuno • UPSE Extension at the Global City • Negotiations between PIDS and PCED to allot one-storey for the UPSE/PCED in the PIDS building that will be constructed at the Global City,Taguig • Mainly for the School’s MDE & training programs
