CY Electrical & Cranes was founded in 1973, and over the years we have grown to become known as a foremost provider of parts and accessories for cranes of all types. We have a very large customer base in our local area which is the Worcestershire / West Midlands, but since we have become so well-known, we now cover a very much wider area today. Cranes are used in all sorts of different industries. The most obvious is construction because that is where tower cranes are needed, and they are the sort of equipment that does not go unnoticed. But they are also used in many manufacturing sectors which need to lift and move heavy loads around. On top of that, very recently, in December, a crane known as Big Carl was used to install a polar crane into the first reactor building at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station. The polar crane weighs 750 tonnes, but that is nothing for Big Carl which has a capacity of no less than 5,000 tonnes! The polar crane can rotate through a full 360° inside the dome of the reactor and is being used to lift into place the steam generators and the reactor itself during construction. When the plant is operative, it will be used for refuelling and for maintenance purposes.
Electromagnetic Brakes Not all cranes require that sort of capacity of course, and many are used in a range of different industries where heavy loads are in use. Electromagnetic brakes are a vital part of cranes, used as they are for stopping them. One of the many parts for cranes that we stock are the Lenze brakes which are made by Lenze who have been in the business of producing them for slightly longer than we have been in business, having been started in 1970.
