Author’s Brief Biography: • he was born in Swansea, Wales in 25 th of August 1949 and he is a british novelist • He was educated in schools in Britain, Spain and the USA and graduated from Exeter College, Oxford. • In 1984 he married Antonia Phillips, with whom he has two sons, Louis (b. 1985) and Jacob (b. 1986) • He left this marriage in 1993 and in 1996 married the writer Isabel Fonseca, a relationship that has produced two daughters, Fernanda (b. 8 November 1997) and Clio (b. 1999). • An affair with Lamorna Heath in 1974 produced another daughter, Delilah Seale, whom he met for the first time in 1996.

CAREER: • at age 27 became literary editor of The New Statesman • He wrote and published his first novel (The Rachel Papers) in 1973 • His best known novels are Money, London Fields and The Information • During his career he wrote ten novels, six works of nonfiction, two short story collections, and nearly four hundred reviews and essays

  5. “Time’s Arrow” • This book is made up in 3 main parts which contain 8 chapters and presents different periods of a doctor’s life . • The strangest thing about this book is that it is written from the end to the beginning • The main character is named with 4 pseudonyms : Tod Friendly, John Young, Hamilton de Sousa and OdiloUndverdorben.

  6. The entire book is written on the basis of the unique and unpleasant experience that the doctor had at Auschwitz. Everything is regarded to the mentality of a person who had passed through such a terrible happening which damaged his entire life. • During the book, he has a wife – Herta , and later on a girlfriend- Irene , but also many other adventures. He had a baby with Herta named Eva, but she died soon after she was borned. • He only works as a doctor – in New York , in Germany and also in Auschwitz.
