  5. Secret Weapon Recap • Fear • Love • Discouragement • Humility • Loneliness • Introspection • Guilt • Acceptance • Worry • Shame • Temptation • Cowardice • Anger • Burning • Resentment • Mortality • Doubt • Testing • Failure • Difficulty • Jealousy • Blessing

  6. Warm-Up • What is the difference between ENVY and JEALOUSY? • Same Giant, two modes… • Empty Hand – Envy • My displeasure is in what I do not have. • Full Hand – Jealousy • My displeasure is in what I do not want to lose.

  7. What is it? • Greek translation: • “to boil within” • Jealousy is the Giant you don’t want to leave alive, because he can negate all previous victories. • Jealousy travels in “circles.”

  8. Genesis 26:13-14 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy. He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.

  9. Numbers 12:1-2 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. “Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the LORD heard this.

  10. Numbers 16:1-3 Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain Reubenites—Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth—became insolent and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council. They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the LORD’s assembly?”

  11. Philippians 1:15-18a It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

  12. What is it? • Jealousy’s Circles: • Wealth • Power • Performance • Profession • Social • Jealousy lives in the most important rooms of your home.

  13. What is it? • Jealousy is only righteous in the context of the only One who truly possesses. • Personal jealousy (envy) never has a happy ending. • Haman • Daniel’s Accusers • Joseph’s Brothers • Saul

  14. What does it do to me? • The Giant of Jealousy seeks to consume you from the inside out. • Termite wood. • Proverbs 14:30 • A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

  15. What does it do to me? • Jealousy and Envy can… • Cause a young man not to rejoice when his wayward brother returns home. • Cause brother to kill brother when one sacrifice is accepted over the other. • Cause a king to resent a faithful servant who has delivered him military victory. • Cause religious scholars to reject the Messiah they were looking for out of fear of the loss of their own power.

  16. What does it do to me? • Jealousy and Envy can… • Cause a king to order the murder of babies to protect his throne. • Cause faithful disciples to discourage another from healing in the name of Jesus. • The devils and the holy man.

  17. How do I kill it? • The Four R’s: • RENOUNCE jealousy as sin. • REMEMBER your rival in prayer. • REAFFIRM God’s goodness to you. • REKINDLE God’s love in your heart.

  18. The Kill Shot(s) • LOVE • 1 Corinthians 13:4 • Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. • BLESSING • At the first sign of envy or jealousy, pray for God to pour out His blessing upon your rival. • In doing so, you are giving God the opportunity to bless you.
