  1. Earth and Moon CHARACTERISTICS By Daniel Torres

  2. Size of the Earth and moon Size of Earth Size of moon The moon is approximately 3,474 kilometers in diameter. • The Earth is approximately 12,742 kilometers in diameter. • Fast Fact: Earth is about 4 times the size of the moon.

  3. Landforms of the Earth and moon Earth moon The moon has mountains, craters, and plains • The earth has mountains, valleys, plains, peninsulas and much more of nature’s creations.

  4. Earth and moon gravitational force Earth moon The moon has about 1.622 m/ gravity • The Earth has about 9.78 m/ gravity

  5. Weather and atmosphere on the Earth and moon Earth moon The moon has warm and cool days like earth but unlike earth it does not have rain or cloudy days. The moon has an atmosphere but it only rises a foot off the ground. • Earth has a large atmosphere that consists of four layers: the exosphere, thermosphere, mesosphere, and stratosphere. Earth can have rainy, cloudy, warm, and cool days.

  6. Water on the Earth and moon Earth Moon Scientists have found that there is frozen water on the moon. • Approximately 70% of Earth’s surface is covered by water.

  7. Weathering and erosion on the Earth and moon Earth moon Weathering and erosion does occur on the moon but the process takes a lot longer than the erosion processes on Earth. • Weathering can be caused by water, swings in temperature, plants, and animals. Erosion can be caused by deforestation, overgrazing, and wind.

  8. Time to rotate on it’s axis Earth moon It takes 27.3 days to rotate once on it’s axis. • It takes the Earth 23.9 hours to rotate once on it’s axis.

  9. Time to revolve Earth moon It takes the moon 23.5 days to revolve once around Earth. • It takes Earth 365.25 days to revolve once around the sun.

  10. How the tides are made • The moon creates the tides by using it’s pull of gravity. This causes the tides to rise the highest at night.

  11. Why the Earth has seasons • Seasons are caused by the tilt of the earth on it’s axis.
