  2. Removing the Top Cover 1. Remove the two large white caps on the top cover. 2. Remove the two screws. 3. Lift the handle and remove the small silver screw on the left hand side of the machine. 2

  3. 4. Slowly remove the top cover slightly away exposing the bobbin winder motor plug. Gently disconnect the bobbin winder plug from the top of the A-board. 5. Remove the top cover and the pressure dial. 3

  4. Removing the Belt Cover 1. Lift the handle and loosen (do not remove) the screw on the right hand side. 2. Remove the large white cap under the hand wheel and the large white cap under the machine socket. 3. Remove the two screws. 4

  5. 4. Gently start removing the cover from the top rear side, pulling the cover away from the rear panel 5. Make sure to go carefully around the power ports and machine socket. 6. Remove the belt cover. Be careful of the locking tab underneath the machine. Either lift up on the machine or have it hanging off the table slightly in order not to crack it off. 5

  6. Removing the Bed Cover and the Base unit 1. Remove the accessory tray. 2. Lay the machine gently on its back. Remove the two screws. 3. Slide the bed cover to the left and remove it. 6

  7. Circuit Board (S1) 4. Disconnect the plug from the circuit board ( S1 ) on the base unit. Tuck the the wires underneath the lever for the Y- arm. 5. Remove the four large screws from the base unit. 6. *Do not pull the base away from the machine. Gently lift the machine off of the base making sure the connector plug does not get caught on the embroidery arm release lever unit. Embroidery Arm Release Lever Unit 7

  8. Removing the Front Cover 1. Remove the screw and the thread guide. Thread guide 2. Loosen the screw underneath the free arm. 3. Loosen the screw above the hand wheel. 8

  9. 4. Loosen the screw above the USB box making sure not to pinch your base plug connector wires. 5. As you pull out the front cover, disconnect the hooks that hold the front and the rear covers together. 6. Disconnect the 12 plugs from the A board that hold it to the machine, observing their position for reassembly later. Remove the front panel. 9

  10. Replacing the A Board 1. Disconnect the nine remaining plugs on the A-board. observing their position and routing for reassembly later. 2. Very gently and extremely careful, slide upward the black locking device that holds the flexible cable to the a-board, and slide the cable out. 10

  12. 4. As you lift the A-board out use your screwdriver to push the card release button inward to clear the card slot guide. 5. Remove the A board unit. 12

  14. Replacing the Screen and the LCD unit 1. Remove the two screws that hold the white micro switch activator and screen guide. 2. Loosen the screw by using pliers or a 5.5 mm wrench and remove the holding plate. 3. Lift the front panel upward and slide it to the left. Carefully remove the screen making sure the LCD flexible cable is gently pulled out. 14

  15. 4. Remove the six outer screws that hold the screen frame together , and remove the front screen frame. 5. Remove the other 4 screws on the back of the screen frame to lift the lcd unit and the inverter out of the frame. 6. Lift up on the plastic end of the inverter and unplug the pink and white wire and unplug the other end of the inverter from the back of the lcd unit. 15

  16. 7. Notice the two flexible cables on the back of the LCD unit. If you need to remove them, very gently slide open the black locking clips and slide out the cables. 8. Plug the inverter back into LCD unit by lifting up on the plastic and plugging the pink and white wire into the inverter. Plug the other end into the LCD unit. 9. Position the screen and inverter into place, making sure not to pinch any wires. 16

  17. 10. Gently guide the LCD flexible cable through the back frame of the screen. 11. Screw in the four screws that hold the LCD unit into position. • 12. Screw in the six screws that hold the back and front frame together. • * The front screen frame will only fit on one way. • Also notice the screws that go into the frame have a flat service on the head. This way they will not scrape into the machine. Make sure to use the correct screws. 17

  18. 13. Make sure the flexible cable goes through the large opening of the front cover. Slide the LCD to the left making sure the guide on the outer edge of the screen goes into the groove on the front panel. 14. Replace the black screw and holding plate for the left side of the screen guide and tighten the screw temporarily. 15. Replace the two screws that hold the white micro switch activator and screen guide. 18

  19. 16. Use your finger to turn the large white stepping motor gear. When you are turning the gear your screen should be moving very easily upward or downward and you should feel no binding or tightness. 17. If the screen does not move freely, loosen the screw again and slightly push up the holding plate. Tighten the black screw securely, but do not over tighten. 18. Also look at the screen height micro switches. When you turn the gear and your screen goes to the top you should hear a click of the micro switch. 19

  20. 19. When you hear this, the screen should be level with the bottom of the front set plate. 20. When your screen goes down and you here a click of the micro switch your screen should be level with the top of the front set plate. 20

  23. A Board Installation 1. Slide the A - board into the front panel. Only the flexible cable should be left under the board with just the most end part reaching above to plug into the A-board. 2. Reinstall the A board, being certain that the eject button and the card guide tracks are in their proper position. Eject button 23

  24. A Board Installation 3. Slide the flexible cable into the locking device being careful not to break it. Close the black locking device. 4. Connect the 9 plugs into the A-board, making sure all plugs are on top of the A-board and replace the six screws. 24

  25. Needle Threader Replacement 1. Remove the two screws that hold the face cover bracket to the machine and remove the face plate. 2. Remove the two silver screws that hold the white plastic cover on the auto threader. One is in the front and one on the side. 3. Remove the white cover by taking it from the front and moving it downward releasing the wires going around to the side. Remove the wires from the cord guide carefully. 25

  26. 4. Disconnect the wires that run from the threader motor to the circuit board U.(1) SMALL BROWN PLUG, (1) SMALL BLUE PLUG AND (1) SMALL BLACK PLUG WITH FOUR WIRES COMING OUT OF IT. 5. Remove the silver screw that holds the rear panel. 26

  27. 6. Remove the screw and the lamp holder. 7. Remove the two screws that hold the threader motor to the casting of the machine. 8. Remove the threader working it around the lamp wire and sliding the handle away from you. 27

  28. 9. Attach your threader motor to the machine, making sure to connect the top of the threader motor into the rear panel and most importantly make sure that the white clip sticking out of the needle bar supporter unit goes in between the black micro switch opening which is attached to your threader motor. 28

  29. 10. Making sure no wires are being pinched, screw in the two screws that hold the threader motor into the casting, and reattach the handle. 11. Insert and tighten the screw that holds the top of the threader motor into the rear panel. 12. Take the white plastic cover and hold it up side down facing your motor. Take the wires and hook it into the end of the white cover. Turn the white cover upward and guide the four groups of wires through the cover making sure none get pinched. The lamp wire should be routed with the other wires and go through the indent on the inside of the white cover. 29

  30. 13. Once you are sure no wires are being pinched screw in the two small silver screws. 14. Replace the lamp supporter and tighten the screw. 30

  31. 15. Take the wires and guide them back through the wire guide, and reconnect the three wires into circuit board U. 16. Reattach the face cover and bracket with two screws. Make sure that it lines up and closes in line with the curve on the tension unit. 31

  32. Tension Unit Replacement 1. Unplug the two wires coming from the tension unit going into circuit board U. 2. Remove the screw from the top bracket of the tension unit. 3. Open the face cover and remove the screw from the bottom of the tension unit that goes into the grey plastic tension guide. Remove the tension unit. 32

  33. 4. *When servicing the tension unit it is not necessary to remove the unit. a) If the tension gear is too open it might fall off the track which will cause an error message b) If it is closed in all the way the upper tension will be too tight. Factory setting is usually about two threads that you can see. 5. Also clean out between your tension discs. There might be lint or thread stuck in between the discs keeping it from closing all the way. Clean out the sensor at the bottom of the tension unit. This sensor indicates whether the machine is threaded. If an oil spot or lint or if the sensor is crooked or the cushion is off, the machine will read to rethread machine or will give an error message. 33

  34. 6. With a small flat head screwdriver in your left hand hold the micro switch closed for presser foot up/down.Slide the tension unit with your right hand being careful of the micro switch. 7. Reinstall the two screws that hold the tension unit in. 34

  35. 8. Reattach the two wires in the circuit board U. 9. After attaching the tension unit check to see if the bracket is closing and opening the micro switch when raising and lowering your presser foot lever. 35

  36. 9. Also check to see if the tension discs are opening and closing fully. 10. You can check this by using a piece of thread and putting it through the tension discs to feel if you have tension. 36

  37. Circuit Board B Removal and Installation *The base must be removed for this and the front panel loosened away from the casting slightly. 1. Remove the two silver screws at the bottom of circuit board B. 2. Follow the white wires up into the machine and unplug the black connector from the A-board (when front panel is attached). Guide the wires and plug down through the machine and through the hole in the casting and remove the B-board. 3. To replace, guide the wires through the machine and through the hole in the casting.Insert and tighten the two screws. 37

  38. Rear Cover Removal and Installation 1. Remove the rear panel by removing the three screws on the back panel. 2. Loosen the screw by the handwheel. 38

  39. 3. Loosen the screw that holds the rear cover by the auto thread cutter plate and by the buttonhole lever. 4. Lower the presser foot and remove the cover. 39

  40. Power Supply Removal and Installation 1. Unplug the wire. 2. Remove the two screws that hold the switching power supply unit into the casting of the machine. Remove the power supply unit. 3. Insert and tighten the two screws that hold the switching power supply unit into the casting of the machine. Plug the wire. 40

  41. DC Motor Removal and Installation 1. Remove the motor belt. 2. Remove the two screws that hold the motor to the casting. Slide the motor out making sure not to pinch any wires. Shield Plate Circuit Board 3. Inspect the back of the motor making sure that the shield plate is okay, that no lint or maybe a wire is interfering with it. Also look for any broken wires or damage in the circuit board. 41

  42. 4. Install the motor making sure that the wire does not interfere with the motor and not to pinch the white wires above the circuit B cover. Tighten the two screws temporarily. Circuit B Cover 5 mm slack 3. Install the motor belt. The motor belt should deflect 5mm when a pressure of 200 grams is pushed against the middle of the motor belt. Reposition the motor until the deflection is correct and then tighten the two screws firmly. 42

  43. Adjustment of Feed Dog Drop and Lift 1. If your feed dogs are not raising or lowering please check the step motor and micro switches on the bottom. 2 Micro switches Stepping Motor 2. When the feed lift cam is against the timing gear the micro switch nearest the step motor should be closed. 43

  44. 3. When the feed lift cam is in the dropped position the micro switch farthest from the step motor will be closed. 4. If an adjustment is needed, first loosen the silver screw and the brass screw. This will allow you to move the adjusting bracket slightly in order for the switches to make contact with the white plastic activator. 44

  45. 5. If you ever need to change the step motor first cut the small plastic tie very carefully. Then unplug the red, white, and blue wires from the photo sensor board. Cut the tie.. 6. Remove the silver and brass screws on the adjusting bracket. 7. Using your Philips screwdriver reach underneath the step motor and remove the two silver screws. Guide the step motor and bracket out carefully. To install the step motor follow the same steps in reverse. 45

  47. Adjusting Needle Bar Height 1. To make this adjustment the presser foot should be removed. Raise the needle bar to its highest point. Insert the step gauge, part # 003860G001. The clearance between the tip on the needle and the surface of the needle plate should be 16.3 mm. 2. Remove the gauge. Locate the 2 mm hexagon set screw. Using a 2 mm hexagon screwdriver loosen the screw and move the needle bar up or down to set the correct height and tighten the screw. Make sure not to rotatethe needle bar. Be sure that the groove (3) on the needle bar is facing exactly forward. 47

  48. Adjusting Upper and Lower Shaft Timing Timing mark 1. If the clutch has been disassembled or the upper shaft has been replaced, the upper and lower shaft timing will need to be adjusted. Remove the motor belt. Loosen the set screw that holds the idler unit to the casting and remove the timing belt from the lower shaft pulley. 2. Turn the upper shaft until the belt wheel timing mark is facing straight up. 3. Turn the lower shaft until the lower shaft timing pulley pin is facing straight up at the same time that the timing mark is slightly to the right of the pin. 4. Reinstall the timing belt on the lower shaft pulley, being sure that the timing marks and pin do not move from the proper positions. Push the idler to the right and tighten the set screw. Install the motor belt. Always checkhook timing when this adjustment is done. 48

  49. Adjusting Hook Timing 1. Remove the presser foot, needle plate and bobbin case. To check the hook timing, push the needle bar all the way to the left. Rotate the handwheel towards you to bring the needle all the way down, then continue to rotate the handwheel until the tip of the hook is at the right side of the needle. At this position the tip of the hook should be 1.6 to 2.0 mm above the top of the eye of the needle. 2. To make the adjustment, place the machine on its back. Loosen the two 2.5 mm screws on the lower shaft gear. Make sure the needle bar is to its lowest point. While holding the hook race, rotate the handwheel until the hook timing is correct. Then tighten the screws. 49
