  1. MARCH Are we ready for the “BIG ONE” ? In geology, a fault is a planar fracture or discontinuity in a volume of rock, across which there has been significant displacement. Large faults within the Earth's crust result from the action of tectonic forces. Energy release associated with rapid movement on active faults is the cause of most earthquakes. A fault line is a separation or crack in the Earth's crust. It is the line where two or more of the tectonic plates in the Earth's crust butt against each other. An earthquake occurs when these plates move against each other. Where exactly is the Marikina Valley Fault Line? The Valley Fault System, formerly called the Marikina Fault System, is one of the country’s most active faults. It stretches from the Sierra Madre in Bulacan and goes on down to Tagaytay, traversing parts of Metro Manila and Laguna. It lies northeast of Manila and traverses to the whole vicinity of Marikina, Pasig, some part of Makati, Taguig going to Muntinlupa, down to the south and some parts of Quezon City. • Areas lying on the Fault line • Brgy. Putatan, Muntinlupa • Loyola Grand Villas, Marikina • Loyola Subdivision, Marikina • Cinco Hermanos Subdivision, Marikina • Don Juan Subdivision, Marikina • Industrial Valley Subdivision, Marikina • St. Ignacius Village, Quezon City • White Plains Subdivision, Quezon City • Doña Ana Village, Quezon City • What to do during earthquake? • At Home/Office • If possible, quickly open the door for exit. • Duck under a sturdy desk or table, and hold on to it or protect your head with your arms. • Stay away from glass windows, shelves, cabinets and other heavy objects. • Beware of falling objects.
