  2. What I found worked • Met supervisors early • Decided project early • Once project decided, decided on how to split time effectively • Day per week blocks • Week at a time • 3 month block

  3. Year 1 • Post-graduate exams • Reading around projects • Ethical approval

  4. Year 2 • Substantial amendment to ethics! • R&D (!!!) • Fine tuning techniques, and start recruiting

  5. Year 3 • Complete pilot data • Fellowship applications • Allow 4-6 months to fill out • RCSEng x2 • Circulation Foundation • British Heart Foundation

  6. Clinical vs Academic Training • Don’t forget clinical competencies • Assessments • Don’t forget academic milestones • Had to do a fair amount in my own time • Chase people for money

  7. Top Tips • Start early, with everything • Try to use time to do main project • Audit/case reports etc • Don’t forget clinical competencies
