  1. Department of Electronic Engineering NUIGFinal Year Project Trailer Reversing Prediction By: Marco Law (Chun Ip) Supervisor: Martin Glavin

  2. Introduction • A reversing car with a trailer is a unstable system as the trailer can “jack-knife” at any moment. • The appropriate response at any one moment is changing and dependent on the angle between the trailer and the car and the angle between the trailer and the line if the car is reversing in a line.

  3. Aim of Project: • Reversing with a trailer in a straight line • Reversing with a trailer from one parking space to another • Reversing with a trailer in a circle or an “eight” without “Jack-knife”

  4. Hardware & Software • Hardware: A remote control car or Lego or any toy cars with a trailer that has a good grip. Some sensors to detect the angle between the car and the trailer when reversing.

  5. Software: The software I am going to use for this project is MATLAB.

  6. Progress: • At the moment I am current researching what type of sensors are suitable for my project. • Order/buy the model (car and the trailer) this week. • Researching and learning to use MATLAB. • Make a timeline when I receive the project specification.
