  2. Trig’s philosophy is that equipping with ADS-B should be as easy as possible. Click on each component to see what you will need for a compliant ADS-B Out solution that can be used anywhere in the world. Trig transponder WAAS capable GPS (blind). • Trig is certified to TSO-C166b, the latest standard for ADS-B • In the U.S. a Class 1 device must be used for ADS-B (FAA CFR Sec. 91.227 para.b) • The TT22 and TT31 are both Class 1 transponders, with a nominal power output of 240 Watts. • For all other countries all our transponders are compliant to the latest certification – TT21, TT22 and TT31. Trig transponder WAAS capable GPS Existing transponder antenna • A certified position source is also required. Critically this device constantly checks and verifies its true position to ensure that positional integrity is maintained. Additionally this data needs to be shared with the transponder, many existing GPS units cannot comply with these requirements. • Currently the FreeFlight 1201 or NexNav Mini WAAS GPS are certified position sources that are compatible with Trig transponders and meet the ADS-B requirements (including the U.S. 2020 mandate). • You may wish to check our compatibility table to see what GPS devices will work with Trig transponders. This tables shows relevant certification standards and is updated frequently (link). Existing transponder antenna WAAS GPS antenna Fitting a Trig transponder offers significant advantages, for example you can use your existing antenna. This saves time and money and requires no new holes to be drilled in the airframe! Existing transponder antenna WAAS GPS antenna Primary system connections Ground air determination • Your WAAS GPS position source will require an antenna. This needs to be located with a clear view of the sky and will not be masked by the airframe during manoeuvres. • See our technical library for an example of Trig flight trial data (link to Google Earth images). Existing transponder antenna WAAS GPS antenna Primary system connections Ground air determination In most countries where ADS-B is mandated you will require a Ground Air Determination Device. This ensures that the Trig transponder can automatically swap between surface and airborne transmissions. Ground Air Determination can come from either a Mechanical Squat Switch, Air Data Computer (TT31 only) or an Airspeed Switch. Air Ground Determination is an FAA requirement for a certified aircraft installation. For uncertified aircraft you are advised to check with you FAA Field Office for further information. This diagram shows what additional components you will need for a compliant ADS-B Out and ADS-B In solution that can be used anywhere in the world. ADS-B Out is usually mandated, ADS-B In provides the benefit of traffic information in the cockpit.
