CLUSTERING IN ACTION EMSAC (Regions of Knowledge – FP7) EMSAC (European Marine Science Applications Consortium) Negotiation with the EC is complete – Project underway Initial activities include a market appraisal in the field of coastal water management, and assessment of capabilities in the four participating Clusters OI 2010

  3. CLUSTERING IN ACTION CAMIS (INTERREG IVa MANCHE) CAMIS (Channel Arc Manche Integrated Strategy) Project Underway. Initial activities include exploration of an integrated maritime policy for the Channel area. Development of a database of recent/ongoing Channel projects, and identification of market-led opportunities for cross-Channel cooperation.

  4. CLUSTERING IN ACTION TIME (INTERREG IVa – 2 SEAS) TIME (Transferring Innovation for Maritime Economy) The project aims to analyse supply chains serving three maritime markets, and identify potential for increased efficiency and cross-border collaboration.

  5. CLUSTERING IN ACTION PROPOSSE (INTERREG IVb – Atlantic) PREPOSSE (Short Sea Shipping in Europe) The initial activities on data collection and analysis of potential short sea shipping routes are underway.

  6. CLUSTERING IN ACTION PROTTEC (INTERREG IVa – MANCHE) PROTTEC (Technology Transfer mechanisms) The activities on data collection and analysis of existing technology transfer approaches (mainly within universities) are underway.

  7. CLUSTERING IN ACTION WICO (INTERREG IVc – POWER) WICO (Wind of the Coast) Italian coordination. Main roles will be to explore potential for deployment of devices in existing port and harbour infrastructures.

CLUSTERING IN ACTION Weaknesses ERDF Projects Have a High Administrative Overhead (Much greater than FP7) INTERREG IVa Manche Is Burdensome The cost eligibility and reporting criteria do not reflect practices in the private sector, and these programmes are to some extent excluding business participation

  10. CLUSTERING IN ACTION Weaknesses HOWEVER We are still participating and so are our businesses; therefore the programmes are worthwhile but we need to examine the burdens imposed!

Market Opportunities • Construction & operations management • Shipbuilding, leisure marine, marine equipment • Shipping, logistics, safety • Asset maintenance & intervention planning • Marine environmental risk management • Ecosystem & MPA management • Risk assessment • Marine security & resources (EEZ) management • Monitoring resource extraction (energy, aggregates etc) • Mapping & surveillance & management
