  5. STATE DEPUTY MEETING “What Father McGivney laid out was not the principles of a men’s club or the principles of a secret society. It was a principled way of life for men to live their catholic faith. We are not just building columbianism, we are building Catholicism. Let’s think about being a Knight of Columbus like that. And if we do, we understand that we are not just (fraternal leaders). Is that not the spiritual genius of Father McGivney? To understand how to build a way of life for men that goes to the central core of what it means to be a catholic: charity, unity, brotherhood.”

  6. Our Mission • Support of Catholic Church and Priests • “Strong right arm of the Church” • Promoters/Defenders of the Faith • Heart of Parish Communities • Aid and assist our neighbors; wherever they are • Go to the peripheries--Knights are already there • Missionary Disciples—Faith in Action

  7. Our Challenge • Growing our Councils, Districts, State, Order • Revitalizing our Councils and our members • Attracting, recruiting, involving, retaining • Catholic men & families; young men and families • Increase charitable donations & volunteer hours 5% • Active during Summer months

  8. Council Revitalization • Councils are the heartbeat of the Order • Where we grow in faith as men, husbands, fathers, grandfathers, coworkers, citizens • Where we are able to grow and strengthen our families and parishes • Where we are able to give back to our Church and communities • Strong, energetic, vibrant councils = strong growth, retention & increased charitable outreach

  9. Council Revitalization • What is the status of my council? • High excitement/energy levels v. low energy; slowed momentum • Programs--do they communicate Faith in Action or we really don’t know why we do what we do any more? • Idea of charity is writing checks v. reaching out to those on the peripheries

  10. Council Revitalization • What is the relationship with my pastor and parish? • Are council members bored, disinterested? • How are we perceived and how do we think we are perceived? • If your council is growing and thriving; if your members are thriving and growing great; keep up the great work—and help other councils • If not, lets look at what we can do to move forward

  11. Parish Interaction • Meet regularly with the Pastor • Partner with the Pastor; provide support he requests/needs • Be visible; vests, shirts, name badges • Involve parish in programs/activities • Invite prospective members and family to take part in programs • New Faith in Action program model

  12. STATE DEPUTY MEETING “What the Knights of Columbus is doing in thousands of different ways every day is putting our faith in action. Putting our faith in action in ways that our people see and understand and know bring value to people’s lives, bring value to our communities, bring value to our country—whichever country we are living in. So I urge every council to embrace this program and carry forward projects within each of these catagories.”

  26. Mission Summary “In his homily our worthy Supreme Chaplain caught the genius and spiritual vision of Father McGivney by seeing the principle of the Knights of Columbus in the Trinity. Members of the Order should think of themselves as Knights of the Trinity, Knights of Chaitry, Knights of Unity and Knights of Fraternity. This would lead to continued growth in membership, continuing good works of charity and brotherhood in the care of fellow knights.” We Serve for God’s Glory and Our Neighbor’s Good”
