  3. Mission & Vision Mission MCH, Inc. fulfills vital needs in mid-coast Maine by enhancing self-sufficiency and quality of life for individuals, primarily the elderly and disabled. Vision MCH, Inc. exists to create a supportive community in which persons, particularly the elderly and disabled, are assisted in adapting to changes in life situations to maintain their independence with dignity.

MCH History 1969: Methodist Conference Home opens its doors 1972: MCH takes over local home-delivered meal program 1979: MCH becomes demonstration site for Congregate Housing Services Program 1980: MCH takes over transportation for seniors in Knox County 1998: MCH opens Bartlett Woods Retirement Community 2005: Door to Door transportation program for seniors

Where do we stand • We have skills already to provide these services: • Meals • Transportation • Case management • Housekeeping and chore services • Home repair and maintenance • We are providing some in the community and some in our housing facilities • We have a 40 year track record of providing services in the community Our current subsidized community-based services, Meals on Wheels and transportation, either lose money or are marginal with current consumers; we believe there are many more potential customers with modest ability to pay

How we operate • Operational best and worst: • Housing programs generally operate in the black • Meals on Wheels program requires huge fundraising effort to make up for shortfall • Pricing / fee-for-service: • Little room to negotiate rates with govt agencies • Little experience pricing un-subsidized service • Current marketing efforts: • Most consistent marketing - regular ads for housing • Market programs sporadically e.g. self drive • Tend not to market the organization • Marketing gets cut when funding is tight

  8. Success Success: MCH has a model for providing services to older adults in their own homes, in which the services are priced accurately, marketed effectively and delivered efficiently. Services might include: Case management Housekeeping, laundry, shopping Meals other than MOW Specialized transportation services Minor home repair and maintenance

Challenges • Will our target market pay what the service costs? • How do we price the services? • How do we reach these people? • Can we successfully translate these services into a new context? • Can we find potential partners to work with, including other agencies or those who provide similar services? • Can we get full organizational alignment around these services? • Staff capacity
