  2. IBCC International Baccalaureate Career-Related Certificate • The IBCC programme is a 2 year career-related programme for students aged16-19 • Offered by the IB (International Baccalaureate) • Aimed at students who are focused on career-related skills and a specific career path

  4. Why work placement? • Academic learning on it’s own is not sufficient, it must be supported by applied knowledge • Students benefit from being involved in the ‘real world’...

  5. Why work placement? • Gives students valuable experience they could not get at school • It helps to establish and confirm chosen pathways • Helps to develop confidence

  6. The Learning Dimension • Students begin with a self analysis of skills and attributes • Diagnostic testing is carried out to determine possible careers based on identified skills & attributes • Students research possible careers based on results

  21. Relating Work Placements to Business Class • Engage and stimulate interest in the subject • Long-term memorisation of theory • All placements can relate to some areas of a syllabus: entrepreneurship, business communication, organisational structure

  22. Relating Placements to Business Class Some placements lend themselves to specific topics: • A factory: operations management quality control, lean production, efficiency • A shop:the marketing mix, pricing strategy, target market, market research

  23. Pre or Post Class Placement Teach content after or before the placement: Pre class placement: introduce a forthcoming topic. i.e. business communication Post class placement: teach content then the work placement confirms learnt content. i.e. organisational structure

  24. Benefits for University/Job Applications • Provides ‘work experience’ example • Provides content for personal statement • Helps in differentiation of applicants • Provides ideas for course selection • Provides ideas for interview
