  2. Keywords • Based on the analysis of the current level of SDMX implementations within organisations and needs expressed by our constituency • The re-use of software • reducing costs • increasing productivity

  3. Rationale Allows exposure of data from existing databases using SDMX standards • Provides statistical organisations re-usable building blocks: • .NET and Java implementations • Well defined API • Open Source package under the EUPL licence • Minimize installation effort that enable production of SDMX data from existing reference / dissemination databases • Support Census Hub and similar Eurostat projects • Conform to SDMX Web Service guidelines • Stimulate a “SDMX community of developer”

Where we are • Countries that installed the SDMX-RI: Belgium, France, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden • Expressing interest • Assistance 2011: Bulgaria • Assistance 2012: Albania, Iceland, Malta, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey • Without assistance: Cyprus, Russia

Where we are (ctd.) • Software maintenance and governance • Up to now Eurostat is managing both the evolutive and adaptive maintenance • How will versioning be handled when other organisations improve the software • Is “open source” community model applicable to the “statistical community” • Experiences could come from organisations participating in SDMX ESSnet projects
