Early Life • Roberto was born on January 7 1909 in Mexico, D.F. • He had three brothers: Jose de Jesus Rodriguez, Ismael Rodriguez, Enrique Rodriguez and one sister: Consuelo Rodriguez. • Their parents were Jose Ramay a director and TitinaRomay an actress. • With both parents in the film industry they took interest as well. • He and his older brother Jose went to Los Angeles in 1926 • The rest of his family: mother, father, and siblings arrived in 1928 and opened up a bakery in order to fund their careers.

Education and Dedication • He went to school in Mexico, D.F. then continued his schooling in the Escuela de ComercioyAdministacion for two years. • Both brothers also took English classes in their home town and California. • They supported themselves through small jobs during the day and went to school by night Brooklyn High School. • Roberto looked for jobs in Hollywood where he was an assistant in photography and mechanical design. • He learned every job he assisted in. • His brothers interest was electrical.

Voyage to a Career • He worked around some famous people such as the Barrymore Brothers and Charles Chaplin. • He then focused his career in operating cameras taking shots from planes. • Both he and his brother Jose dedicated themselves to create a recording device that no longer needed the disc of images. • Their first trial run was a movie named Sangre Mexicana which stared their younger brother Ismael. • It was a success, at the end of 1930 they patent their design naming it Rodriguez Sound Recording System. • All siblings were involved in the production, so in 1939 they created Production Rodriguez Hermanos.

Produced Films • His first film was Santa (1931), filmed in Mexico because president Pascual Ortiz Rubio asked him to film in Mexico. • His debut film as a director was VivireOtraVez (1939) • This production company made people like Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, and Blanca Estela Pavon famous. • Overall he participated in more than 40 films in his entire career. • He did all types of work but his preferred genre was for young children creating films like CaperucitaRoja (Little Red Riding Hood) in 1959. • That same film was prized with the Festival Infantil de la Plata. • His most welcome film to artist was La Bandida, making many famous actors and actresses come together.

A 1960’s Film • La Bandida is about two men who return home from The Revolution and find that their life at home has changed. • One man is about to be widowed and the other figures out that his wife “la bandida” has moved on. • Both these men try to pursue La Bandida although she is far from noticing them. • In relation to the class I think this film takes a dramatic romance and shows what may families might have gone through when The Revolution was over. • In a sense that towns were so small back then men tried to conquer the same woman.

  10. His Last Work • His last directors film was in 1968 La Gran Aventura. • He did not stop writing he continued to write screenplays. • Some of his work was produced in the 80’s. • He died on January 4 1995 in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
