  28. Co-op: Specialist High Skills Major • The Manufacturing Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is a program at ECI that allows students to focus on the manufacturing sector by completing a specific bundle of courses (including co-op) while earning their diploma. • Successful students earn a Red Seal on their diploma. • See your guidance counsellor and manufacturing teacher for more information. • Program specific details are provided in the Course Calendar.

  29. Co-op: Dual Credits • For students interested in completing a college credit while they are still in secondary school. • No cost to the student – if you think that college might be your pathway this is a great way to try it out. • Students within a 2, 3, or 4 credit co-op course may be enrolled in a dual credit program (or students without co-op with permission). • Students attend their college course once per week (in the afternoon) during their co-op class. • See a co-op teacher or your guidance counsellor for more information.

  30. e-Learning • ECI is not able to offer all the available Ministry of Education courses – but students may complete a course online through TDSB e-Learning • e-Learning courses are considered one of your 4 possible ‘day school’ courses each semester • Usually grade 11 and 12 courses are offered and often courses that are cancelled at our school are available through e-Learning

  31. e-Learning (continued) • Examples to consider include grade 12 economics (CIA4U), earth & space science (SES4U), and science & society (SNC4M) … etc. • Registration for next year will likely start in May for both semester 1 and 2 courses • More information can be found online at www.tdsb.on.ca/elearning • Students should be fairly computer literate and able to work independently

  32. Course Selection Materials • ECI Option Sheet • ‘Choices’ Course Selection & Planning Guide • ECI Course Calendar Booklet • Option Fair (February 18) • IPP (Individual Pathways Planning) Worksheet • Teachers • Guidance Counsellor

  33. ‘Choices’ Course Selection & Planning Guide • Grade 9 and 10 students will receive the ‘Choices: Secondary Schools Course Selection & Planning Guide’ which contains a selection of information on TDSB policies and programs. This booklet contains an insert called the ‘Planning Guide’. • Grade 11 and 12 students will only receive the ‘Planning Guide’ which contains information on diploma requirements, program pathways and planning, and instructions on completing your online course selection using ‘myBlueprint’.

  34. Using myBlueprint to Select Courses • All students are expected to submit their options online using ‘myBlueprint’. • Students who haven’t already created a ‘myBlueprint’ account must do so. Please see your guidance counsellor or a librarian for assistance. • Instructions for creating an account and submitting courses are detailed in the ‘Choices Planning Guide’. • Courses can be submitted online from February 19-26. • Course selections can only be submitted ONCE.

  35. Using myBlueprint to Select Courses • After you have submitted your selections you will be asked to confirm and print your ‘Course Selection Sign-Off Sheet’. This sheet must be signed by a parent/guardian before you hand it in. • Make sure you have the appropriate teacher initial any enriched course selections. • There is a place where you can add any special notes to your guidance counsellor (ie. planning to take a course in the summer).

  36. Advice from Student Services • attend the Option Fair with a plan to visit four programs that you need more information about • drop in to speak to a co-op teacher (Ms. Gonya or Ms. Stapleton) to ask questions about placements • ask your teachers about the courses they teach and any recommendations they may have for a course and/or level

  37. More Advice from Student Services CHOOSE CAREFULLY • research your choices carefully … especially decisions that may impact your grade 12 course options • research now … avoid disappointment later as there may not be opportunities to change options in September

  38. Timelines for Course Selection February 9, 10, 11, 2016 • course selection assemblies February 18, 2016 • option fair February 19 - 26, 2016 • ‘myBlueprint’ window is open for course selections

  39. Individual Pathways Plan (IPP) • Students are expected to document their learning in education and career/life planning through their Individual Pathways Plan (IPP) using the following four areas of learning: • Who am I? - Knowing Yourself • What are my opportunities? – Exploring Opportunities • Who do I want to become? - Making Decisions & Setting Goals • What is my plan for achieving my goals? - Achieving Goals & Making Transitions • myBlueprint can help students in each grade work through the annual IPP expectations • Refer to the IPP Worksheet for your grade level
