  1. High end CCTVs and facial recognition in the cameras of today With the invention of the video camera, possibly by John Logie Baird, came the incremental jumps in software development leading to creation of high end devices. These high end devices are now aptly termed as “smart devices.” It’s not a simple cell phone anymore or a refrigerator. It is a smartphone or a smart fridge. Such has also been the case with video cameras as well. High end CCTVs are all the craze in the market nowadays, and add to that the new option of facial recognition system, all people want is a camera that can detect their face. But let’s take a closer look into how the facial recognition in these high end CCTV cameras is beneficial to us. The following bullets help us get a clear view of the properties of the device:- ● Reliability – Facial recognition is a by-product of machine learning. The CCTV camera captures a million faces every day, but the machine learning algorithm makes it possible for the device to identify the face. It is what makes the smart device, well, smart! We can be rest assured that the CCTV camera will reliably capture the face of a human and not a dog/vehicle/ a picture on the hoardings. ● Security – Facial recognition enables the user to get more information out of his video feed so that he can increase his security measures. The user can analyze the faces to predict the type of people that roam around his area of supervision and depending on this data, he can increase his security if needed. This is especially valid for cases where security is a top priority as in banks, airports, jewellery shops etc. ● Accuracy – Not to be confused with reliability, as accuracy here means how fast the high end CCTV device, equipped with the power of facial recognition, can accurately predict the face in the video. Nobody wants a device that would take years to compute just to determine if the object in the video includes a face or not! Fortunately, that is not the case and the high end devices of today can compute that within milliseconds of time. ● Durability – Owing to the revolution in hardware and software, the high end devices of today including the CCTVs come quite cheap and offer good quality/build for the price. They are durable enough to bear some heavy rain or harsh sunlight. It is a must have property for anybody wanting to buy a CCTV camera. ● Productivity – The facial recognition software in the camera helps one to identify the faces he wants to in a million sea of faces. The productivity in this scenario is skyrocketing. To put things in perspective, imagine yourself doing this simple job of face recognition by yourself. You need to find some specific faces from what could possibly be, thousands of people, around you. Even if you did the job, the productivity would be abysmal as compared to the same job done by the high end CCTV camera. Thus, facial recognition is a technology that has and will see a wide variety of applications in and
