  2. 2007 results on 1-st stage of IREN project and plans for 2008 • Working projects of water/power supply, fire prevention, and other systems were finished, necessary equipment manufactured or purchased; • Until March 2008 all engineering infrastructure in accelerator building will be installed; • Main control room was repaired and equipment is assembling now; • About 80% of LUE-200 equipment was mounted on site, partly tested and certified; • Klystron TH2129 was coupled with pulse transformer from SLAC 5045 Klystron and tested; • Magnetic measurements of the solenoid of first accelerating section were completed; • Time schedule with startup of the 1-st stage of IREN facility in November 2008 was approved by JINR Directorate JINR Scientific Council 103-d session

Conclusion • Consequences of the klystron SLAC 5045 damage were diminished by replacement with TH 2129 one keeping almost the same beam power at lower energy. • In spite of relatively low intensity, IREN first stage, due to short pulse, is giving us possibility to make certain experiments in high neutron energy range. • Significant gamma rays intensity in wide energy region (10 – 100 MeV) makes realistic extensive program of applied research. • Financial resources, allocated within JINR budget, are sufficient for project completion. • Project management and FLNP Directorate ask SC to support the decision of JINR Directorate and PAC on Nuclear Physics on prolongation of the topic “Construction of the IREN facility” for 2008 with the first priority and hopes for realization of the expected results in current year.
