  7. What Does This Position InvolveIt’s all about membership • There are four key areas where Ambassadors should be playing a pivotal role: • Being a Spokesmen for the Craft (your lodge) • Engaging & Mentoring Members • Knowing about our Product (who were are, what we do, our history, your lodge’s history, what makes us different?) • Presenting your Message with Positive Results

  8. Spokesman for the Craft • You are a point of contact! • Where will you be needed? • Masonic Open Houses • As a Liaison to the local Media • Speaker at a Rotary or Kiwanis Club • Speaker at Rainbow, DeMolay or Boy Scouts • In developing an Awareness between your Lodge and the Community

  9. Spokesman for the Craft • Your presentations should serve to enlighten, but your ultimate focus should be: • Generating interest in Masonry • Identifying “good men” from all walks of life for potential membership • Building Membership in your Lodge • Always leaving a good impression

  10. Engaging & Mentoring Members Why don’t brothers come back to lodge? • They don’t feel they belong • They don’t feel welcome • They weren’t asked if they would like to do something of interest to them • They were never told what to expect after the degrees • No one ever called them

  11. Engaging & Mentoring Members When you are at meetings, Ask questions of those in attendance. • How have they enjoyed their time since joining the Craft? • Are there any questions they have? • Is there something they would like to be doing? • Do they have any recommendations for programs or events the lodge could run? • How can we make the lodge better? Report the information back to your Worshipful Master.

  12. Engaging & Mentoring Members Help to ensure that all members become engaged in the activities of the lodge in some fashion and that they stay active. • Committees • Widows Program • Visitation Committee • Education Committee • Lodge Programs • Grand Master’s Award • Mark Twain Award • Master Builder’s Award • Master Mason Rookie Award

  13. Knowing our Product As a lodge Ambassador you are not expected to know everything. You are a resource. • Know the basics. • Our Grand Lodge was Chartered in 1733 • We are the 3rd oldest Grand Lodge in the World (England is 1st, Ireland is 2nd) • Your lodge was Chartered in ___ ? • What does your lodge do that makes it special? • Why did you join? • Know where to find the answers

  14. Knowing our Product Have marketing materials available for distribution. Most are at no charge through the Grand Lodge Supply Department. These items will offer answers to almost any question that will be asked: • Proud to be a Mason DVD • The Gift of Freemasonry DVD • 10 Reasons to be a Mason • Consider creating a pamphlet for your own lodge • Be sure it contains up to date contact info!

  15. Presenting your Message with Positive Results Don’t Sell! We have a product (Freemasonry/brotherhood) that is so needed in today’s society. You represent Membership, and a person has to want to participate. If someone expresses interest, it’s time to move forward in the membership process.

  16. So, who would make an ideal Ambassador? • Comfortable and articulate speaker • Good interpersonal skills • Involved and respected member of the lodge or community – a leader • Able to relate to target audiences • Informed Master Mason YOU!

  17. As a Member of your Lodge’sMembership Development Committee This is not a passive position. You are expected to greet visitors at lodge, functions, Open Houses, etc. You are like the host at a party. Pay attention, and if anyone is in need, don’t wait for someone else to act. Make people feel welcome!
