As we early said that IELTS is an exam taken by non-native English speakers who want to go to English speaking nation to study or work. IDP conducts the IELTS exam on the international level. This exam tests the English level of the candidate by testing four different skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) of the candidate.
IELTS Listening Tips • During the exam, check your headphones whether they are working properly or not. If you are having trouble hearing, just raise your hand and ask the invigilator to change the headphones. • Go through the questions when the speaker says that you now have some time to look at the questions. • Mark the keywords in the questions. • Read the instruction properly before answering questions.
IELTS Reading Tips • Increase your reading speed. • Try to finish your reading in 50 to 55 minutes during practice. • Don’t read the full passage in reading. Just use the skimming technique. • Read instructions carefully before answering questions. Sometimes students answer true/false in yes/no, which is wrong. You won’t get any score for this. • To improve your reading, read novels, newspapers or articles in the English language.
IELTS Writing Tips • Before writing the answer, understand the question properly because coherence is very important in IELTS writing. • Make grammatical-error-free sentences. • Use good vocabulary. • Keep an eye on the time, don’t spend more than 15 to 20 minutes on task 1. • Always save at least 5 minutes to proofread your writing and find any mistakes. • Make sure your writing is easily readable.
IELTS Speaking Tips • When practicing speaking, don’t memorize your answers. The examiner can easily tell whether you are speaking a memorized answer or speaking naturally. If you speak a memorized answer, it can affect your final speaking band score. • Don’t use too big and unfamiliar words. • Use different error-free grammatical structures. • Don’t try to make a foreign accent, as accent is not as maters as your fluency and clarity mater in speaking.
