  5. Strategic Directions and Goals • Collaborate to provide a world-class learning experience for Ontario’s students • Expand shared digital research infrastructure • Provide and preserve academic resources essential for teaching, learning and research

  6. Founded in 2002 with two projects: • Portal for e-journal content • Shared interlibrary loan system (RACER)

  7. Today: • Digital collections (journals, books, statistical survey data, geospatial data) • 34,320,452 articles from over 14,084 full text journals covering every academic discipline. • Almost 142,000 commercial and over 359,000 open access titles.

  8. Today: • Research and member services (ILL, open URL linking, citation management, virtual reference, evaluation & assessment)

Consortial Assessment and Evaluation MINES for Libraries MINES = Measuring the Impact of Networked Electronic Resources A survey of e-resource use Data on: • Frequency of use by faculty affiliation • Frequency by purpose of use (coursework, patient care, teaching, funded/non-funded research) • Reason for use (cited in another source, course reading list, recommended by professor/librarian) • User status (undergraduate, graduate, faculty) and location of use (on campus, off-campus, in library) SCOT – Scholars Portal Overlap Tool Tool for identifying coverage and overlap in electronic resources (databases and journal packages) Can be used to compare up to 3 databases or sets.

Scholars GeoPortal • Content • Geospatial data from Statistics Canada, Ontario provincial government, & commercial providers • Metadata compliant with North American Profile of ISO 19115 standard • Functionality • Search, visualize, and download • Support • Scholars Portal supports the technical infrastructure • Close collaboration with Ontario data librarians who provide research support for data

Ontario Digital Library Research Cloud (ODLRC) • A collaboration of Ontario’s university libraries to build a high capacity, geographically distributed storage and compute network using proven and scalable open source cloud technologies.   • Designed to house large volumes of scholarly digital resources to • allow for cost effective and sustainable long-term preservation; and • support data and text mining using innovative research tools designed in partnership with researchers across the province.  • Partners: University of Toronto (lead), Carleton University, University of Guelph, McMaster University, University of Ottawa, Queen’s University, University of Waterloo, University of Windsor, Wilfrid Laurier University and York University.
