Three things we can learn from Joseph’s life about successful discipleship
Aversity • Genesis 37:2 2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father.

The seeds of discord • Genesis 37:3 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors.
Surrounded by hate • Genesis 37:4 4 But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him. I would not have told the dream in this situation
Reception of a Dream • Genesis 37:5-8 5 Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. 6 He said to them, "Hear this dream that I have dreamed: 7 Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf." 8 His brothers said to him, "Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?" So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words. The youngest chosen Hate made them see the bowing and not the purpose

Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you
11 And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.

To dream the impossible dream music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion • To dream the impossible dreamTo fight the unbeatable foeTo bear the unbearable sorrowTo run where the brave dare not goTo write the unwritable wrongTo be better by far than you areTo try when your arms are too wearyTo reach the unreachable star
This is my quest, to follow that starNo matter how hopeless,No matter how farTo fight for the rightWithout question or pauseTo be willing to march into hellFor a heavenly causeAnd I know if I’ll only be trueTo this glorious questThat my heart will be peaceful and calmWhen I’m laid to my rest
And the world would be better for this That one man scorned and covered with scarsStill strove with his last ounce of courage To reach the unreachable star
God holds on to Joseph • Genesis 39:2-5 • 2 The LORD was with Joseph, • and he became a successful man, • and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. • ..............4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. Faithful Love
Behind the scenes • 5 From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had, in house and field.
