  7. WHAT IS TRIAGE NURSING?

  8. What IS Triage nursing? • Triage nursing is a science and specialty within nursing. • It is gathering the needed information to “paint a picture” in your mind of what is going on with the pt. • It is for nurses who are self motivated and are able to work without direct supervision. • It is for those that can think on their feet, who can take a list of symptoms and determine what nursing care is needed with the assistance of guidelines we are given to follow • Triage nurses are in a constant state of learning, training and change, even when training is complete. • It is for those who have superior critical thinking and nursing assessment skills. • It is a job unlike any you have ever had but SO rewarding.

  9. What is Triage nursing like? • Much like the ER - quick thinking is needed • Fast paced, never any downtime • 200% is required of each nurse • Sacrifice • Being a triage nurse is VERY stressful at times • Working when you may be sick and not feel like it • Sometimes giving up what you want to do to help in a crisis • Our patients have to be your main focus as you work, not children, hunger pangs, wanting to spend time with family during holidays, etc.  Our patients depend on us!

  10. IS THIS JOB FOR ME?

  11. What characteristics Make a Good Triage Nurse? • Want or a need to work from home • Multi tasking • Self-Motivated • Detail orientated • No immediate health problems that will prevent you from working your scheduled hours • Planning to work when not feeling well, because we work from home and are not exposing anyone to illness we expect nurses to work with minor symptoms (cough, sore throat, headache, fever, etc. • Compassion • Dependability • Pleasant voice • Love of nursing • Ability to manage stress well • Ability to maintain control of a phone call • Type A personality • The word “fail” is not in your vocabulary • Going above and beyond • Flexibility • Honesty

  12. What is required of me? • RN with current multistate license one of these compact states: NC,SC,TN,VA,TX,MD,KY • 3 years experience as a RN • Malpractice insurance : cost is approx $100 per year • Time to devote to training.. 3-4 hours a day • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours a month which has to be on Fri (after 5pm) and Sat/Sun • Knowing when asked, it is mandatory to get noncompact licenses • Excellent computer skills. You must have Excel, Word and PowerPoint installed on your computer and be comfortable using them. • A quiet place to work • An alternate location to work if internet or power goes out. • High speed internet • Nothing that would keep you from obtaining non compact licenses (background check) • A desire to become the BEST triage nurse you can be

  13. Additional requirements • You must have an all inclusive long distance phone plan in place and call waiting • Land line OR cell phone • Computer must be a PC- laptop or desktop. MAC’s are not supported although some nurses use MAC’s. It cannot be a Chrome book or tablet. • You must have an approved anti virus software that is set to check for issues often. We recommend: Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky, Avast, AVG • HIGH SPEED internet with these requirements: Download speed >12.4, Upload speed >.87. PLEASE check your speeds at http://www.speedtest.net before you contact us. If your speeds are close, we may be able to work with them. If they are not close, we suggest you check with your carrier to see if these speeds are available in your area

  14. When would I work? • We do not work shifts per se. Shifts can be anywhere from 1-8 hours depending on your preference • We work 24/7, 365 days a year so there are a lot of hours we cover mostly in evenings, nights and holidays • After training you would choose from the available hours (the list is sometimes pretty short- you will need to be very flexible until your “best” hours can be obtained) • You would work holidays. We work 10 holidays. You could work 5, 8-hour holidays or 10, 4-hour holidays per year. • REMEMBER: 40 hours a month is the MINIMUM to work (this only accounts for your weekend requirement). You can work up to 160 hours a month.

  15. WHAT DOES TRAINING ENTAIL?

  16. TRAINING • Our training program is designed for specialty nursing which is different from regular nursing. • We offer on-line training, and our Training Manager will help you along the way but you will need to be self motivated to get it completed. She will not “hold your hand.” You need to get with her if something is not clear or you have questions. • Training is broken up into “steps” which will have completion dates that will need to be completed on time • Training Pay: You will receive a bonus of $250 when you COMPLETE fake call training (usually 2-3 week into training) You will then begin your base pay when you START live call training

  17. PAY- 4+ calls an hour • We expect you to be able to average 4+ calls per hour over a 6 month time. That is 1 call every 15 min. You will need to develop the mindset. • MEMORIZE: I cannot solve all their problems. I need to determine if what they are calling about is an emergency, if not, then what do I need to do to get them through the night and to the office the next day. • After Live Call Training your base pay will be $20 per hour. There will be no shift diff at this time. • When you are able to average 4 calls per hour over a given time period (6 months), your base pay will increase to $22 + shift diff of $2-$5 depending on shift worked

  18. IS TRIAGE NURSING FOR ME?

  19. Is this for me? • Not everyone makes a good triage nurse. Please give SERIOUS consideration to the devotion it takes to be a great triage nurse and only pursue if you truly feel this is a good fit for you. • If you work another job we will not take a backseat to that job. PRN, Inc has to be a priority and working your shifts are mandatory. • Training is hard. When you consider we have to get you ready to handle many scenarios that will occur. IT TAKES TIME TO COMPLETE. The more time you devote to training, the better prepared you will be. IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED (learning protocols, learning TriageLogic, etc) you will not be able to handle the call volume. • When something goes wrong, practices do not consider that the nurse is in training. So you will need the ability to bounce back when there are complaints- you cannot take things personally. Experience is the name we give our mistakes. Use any complaints or feedback to grow, learn, and become a better nurse • I can work weekends • I can work holidays- we work 10 major holidays • I am in agreement with the pay and having no benefits offered at this time

  20. Next Steps • Make sure to check your computer speed BEFORE applying • Let us know if you would like to pursue an opportunity with PRN, INC PC. • A pre interview sheet will be sent to you before the interview and takes about an hour to complete. The actual phone interview will take about 30 minutes. Please be prepared to give your undivided attention to the interview. • We are Eastern time zone. Any appointments and work schedules are in our time zone. If you do not live in the Eastern time zone, please adjust your time accordingly. • Feel free to ask any questions during your interview. • After the interview process is complete we will notify you via email of our intentions. • Please visit our website for additional information:www.prntriage.com
