Innovative Therapy and Consulting Approach at Praxis: CybSPEED

CybSPEED aims to enhance therapy through integrating Cyber-Physical systems, social robotics, and international networking.   2. Situated in Kavala, our unit has been operating since 2001

  3. Services offered by “Praxis” ● Physical therapy ● Occupational therapy ● Speech therapy ● Parents Counseling ● Psychology department ● Special education classes for learning disabilities ● Social skills groups ● Music therapy ● Social services

  4. Our aim in CybSPEED ● Provide know-how when it comes to actual interaction with children in the classroom. ● Evaluate the feasibility of integrating Cyber-Physical systems with the human therapist work ● Developing possible useful scenaria for future use . ● Participate in the development of an international network of knowledge and ideas exchange in order to increase the quality of life for children and parents in Special education

  5. Providing know-how when it comes to actual interaction with children in the classroom. More than 20 colleagues from STEM and Humanities backgrounds have had the chance to observe and participate in real time therapy sessions in a responsible, safe and fun way! A school was carried out for both parents and professionals to gain an introductory insight in cyber physical systems . Our employees have had the opportunity to be trained on use of social robotics inside the therapy framework

Evaluate the feasibility of integrating Cyber-Physical systems with the human therapist work Praxis has been recruiting children in order to provide pilot sessions that integrate social robotics . We are engaged in a ongoing process (that will end soon) of documenting both the the benefits and challenges of the aforementioned effort. We hope to help future research and developments in the field by providing datasets on open source repositories.

Challenges faced in our efforts ● Scepticism from the parents about the efficacy or the potential downsides of the sessions ● Unwillingness to participate due to personal data fears ● Big issues caused by the global pandemics that paused most extra curricular activities ● Technological and skill base challenges
