  1. WPC ETA Certification Under Telegraph Act – All You Need to Know What is WPC ETA Certificate? Wireless Planning & Coordination Equipment Type Approval is referred to as WPC ETA. All foreign wireless and radio frequency devices that use delicensed frequencies in India must have it. WPC Certificate Full Form: WPC– Wireless Planning & Coordination ETA– Equipment Type Approval The device's compliance with Indian wireless communication standards and non-interference with licensed frequency bands are guaranteed by the WPC certificate for import. Why Do You Need WPC ETA Certification? If your wireless product is not approved by WPC, Indian Customs may confiscate it. It is legally required under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.  Importers and manufacturers must show a WPC Certificate in the Customs clearance processes. It covers devices like Bluetooth speakers, Wi-Fi dongles, smartwatches, IoT products, drones, and more. Types of WPC Licenses Under WPC licensing, there are two main types: 1.ETA (Equipment Type Approval)– For unlicensed frequency devices (most common for importers). 2.Operating License– Required if the device uses licensed spectrum (e.g., private mobile radio systems). Most consumer-grade devices only require a WPC ETA Certificate. Documents Needed for WPC ETA Certification To apply for the WPC Licence, you will need: RF Test Report from an NABL-accredited lab (Indian or international) Product datasheet Authorization letter (if applying via a consultant) Import Export Code (IEC) Company incorporation documents

  2. WPC ETA Certification Process 1.Testing: Device is tested for RF compliance 2.Online Application: Submit request via Saral Sanchar portal 3.Document Upload: Upload required documents and test reports 4.Review by WPC: Verification and validation by the WPC Wing 5.Grant of ETA Certificate: Approval is granted within 3–4 weeks if all documents are in order WPC Certificate in Customs – Why It Matters A valid WPC ETA Certificate would be required by customs officers if you are importing wireless equipment into India. Without it: Your shipment may be held, fined, or sent back. You may face compliance penalties under the Indian Telegraph Act. Having the proper WPC licence speeds up import and ensures smooth logistics. Final Thought With the WPC ETA Certification, you may import and sell wireless products in India legally and without facing any regulatory obstacles. As a producer, importer, or trader, adherence to WPC standards guarantees expedited customs clearance, uninterrupted commercial operations, and no legal complications.
