  1. Central Ground Water Authority NOC – Who Needs It and How to Apply What is a CGWA NOC? The CGWA NOC is a legal approval granted by the Central Ground Water Authority under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. It allows regulated groundwater extraction for industrial, commercial, infrastructure, and mining projects. The primary aim is to conserve groundwater and ensure sustainable usage. Who Requires a CGWA NOC? A NOC for groundwater is required for: Industries using groundwater for manufacturing or processing Commercial complexes, hotels, and hospitals Infrastructure projects like SEZs, airports, and townships Mining and construction activities using borewells or tubewells Existing users looking to renew or regularize groundwater abstraction CGWA Borewell NOC – Key Guidelines You must apply for a CGWA borewell NOC if you want to install or maintain a borewell. The following elements are assessed: Whether the project is in a "safe," "semi-critical," "critical," or "over-exploited" zone Water conservation and recharge provisions Installation of digital water flow meters and piezometers Submission of water audit and impact assessment reports (in some cases) Documents Needed for CGWA License To submit a CGWA license application, you must: Detailed project report or operational overview Proof of land ownership/lease agreement Borewell/tubewell technical specifications Water requirement calculation Rainwater harvesting plan NOC from State Pollution Control Board (if applicable) Digital flow meter invoice and photos Location map with groundwater categorization

  2. How to Apply for Groundwater NOC The CGWA NOC may be obtained by following this streamlined, step-by-step process: ⃣Register on the CGWA Online Portal Visit https://nocsupport.nic.in and create an applicant login. ⃣Fill Out the Online Application Form Choose your sector (industrial, infrastructure, mining, etc.) and enter the required details about groundwater usage, site, and water conservation measures. ⃣Upload Required Documents Make sure all PDFs are clear and within size limits. ⃣Submit the Application & Pay Fees Pay the groundwater abstraction charges as per the approved CGWA rates based on volume and zone. ⃣Inspection & Approval CGWA may conduct a site inspection. If all is in order, the NOC from CGWA is issued within 30–60 days. Fees for CGWA NOC Fees depend on: Volume of groundwater extraction (in m³/day) Type of use (industrial, infrastructure, etc.) Location (zone classification) Refer to the CGWA’s latestgroundwater abstraction charge structure for exact fee calculations. Final Thought Applying for a CGWA license is a responsible step toward sustainable groundwater management, not merely a legal need. Getting a CGWA borewell NOC guarantees legal operations, avoids future fines, and links your company with environmental responsibility through stringent monitoring and digital tracking.
