The Common Core Standards • The Number System • Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to computation with rational numbers. • Expressions and Equations • Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. • Solve real life mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations. • Ratios and Proportional Relationships • Analyze proportional relationships. • Use these relationships to solve real world problems.

Geometry • Draw, construct, and describe geometrical figures. • Describe the relationships between geometrical figures. • Solve real life problems using angles, area, surface area, and volume. • Statistics and Probability • Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population. • Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations. • Investigate chance and develop probability models.

Homework • Yes, they really do have it everyday. • It won’t all be in the book. • There are a few rare exceptions. • When in doubt check the website. • We practice to solidify our skills, determine what we still need to work on, and to develop mastery. • Late work will be completed in Saturday School.

  11. Grading • Point System • Class work (5-25 pts) • Homework (5 – 25 pts) • Quizzes ( about 50 pts) • Tests (100- 150 pts) • Projects (50 – 100 pts) • Open Responses (25-50 pts)

What can you do to help your childbe successful in math this year? • Encourage them to ask questions if they don’t understand or if they are confused. • Monitor homework completion. • Touch base with your child frequently to know when they should be studying for quizzes and tests, etc. • Let me know immediately if there is any kind of issue or concern.
