WP4 in DoW • WP4 list of Deliverables (all public) • D4.1 Trans-continental Data Infrastructures and Data repositories (M06 – May 2013) • D4.2 Analysis of Data Infrastructures and Data repositories (M12 – Nov 2013) • D4.3 Use cases of the identified Data Infrastructures and Data repositories (M18 – May 2014) • D4.4 Report on the development of the use cases (M24 – Nov 2014) • D4.5 Analysis on the actions taken (M29 – Apr 2015)

  16. WP4 community But what is behind...?

  17. WP4 community WP4 actors…

  18. Objectives & Aims What must we do?

  19. Objectives & Aims • Extend the CHAIN Knowledge base with Data Infrastructures • http://www.chain-project.eu/knowledge-base • Support the study of data infrastructures for a few VRCs • Promote trust building towards open scientific data infrastructures across the world regions

  20. Objectives & Aims • Study the opportunities of data sharing across different e-Infrastructures and continents • Provide proof-of principle use-cases for Data sharing across the continents

  21. Objectives & Aims And how…?

  22. Objectives & Aims • Performing an investigation on the data used by existing and potential trans-continental communities (VRCs) by profiting from the CHAIN legacy and by exploring new ones (T4.1) • In order to avoid duplicated efforts and profit from other regions’ developments and data • Performing an analysis on the commonalities and differences of the available data bases/repositories (format, range, granularity, etc.), their future challenges and the mostly related executed applications • Taking into account the actions performed in WP3, results from T4.1 and feedbacks received during the CHAIN-REDS events (WP2)

  23. Objectives & Aims • Proposing at least two use cases, which show common format for the stored data by means of software developments that could make all of them compatible and ‘interoperable’ • Considering also the work done in WP5 • Bearing then in mind sustainability

  24. Actions Actions…

  25. Actions: internal collaboration • WP4 must perform a coordinated work with the rest of CHAIN WP

  26. Actions: EGI and CHAIN-REDS partners • EGI and Continental/National Grid Initiatives offer continuous exchange and collaboration with data users and providers • CHAIN-REDS partners are much aware of the developments that are carried out in their Regions • Interaction • Coordination • Exchange of information • “Success stories”

  27. Actions: Pre-identified data communities • CHAIN-REDS will explore the collaboration with • AgINFRA (Agriculture) • Climate change and Urban Vulnerability in Africa • EarthServer (Earth Sciences) • EFDA-ITM (Fusion) • Elixir (Life Sciences) • ENGAGE (Governmental) • EUDATA (multidisciplinary) • SuperB (HEP) • UNESCO Brain Gain (Education) • VAMDC (Atomic Physics and Astronomy)

  28. Actions: Internal road-map • The way we’ll work is defined by our WP4 Tasks, which suppose a chronological row of steps forward • Milestones should of course be fulfilled • MS6 MoUs signed • Intense collaboration with projects and initiatives world wide • MS8 Technical Meeting on Federation of Clouds • With a strong focus on Data issues too

  29. Thank you! Rafael Mayo-García (CIEMAT)
