  1. Arctic Spatial Data Infrastructure Progress Review Meeting January 24, 2006

  2. International ASDI Consortium has made much progress and breaking new ground!! • Multi-agency and institution membership now includes representatives from all countries with interests in the Arctic; • Tiered funding commitments from all members now locked in for the next 5 years;

  3. International ASDI Consortium • Domain working groups for Framework Data established • Working closely with NSDI working groups on several key data layers; • Sub-group addressing special needs for spatial data models required for the Arctic. • Coordination and partnership arrangements with other organizations, including the GSDI, FGDC, ISO and OGC in place.

  4. International ASDI Consortium • Arctic Map Machine partnership with the National Geographic Society receives international award for creative treatment of traditional environmental knowledge and public access • Online base data archive growing daily – number of regular users expanded ten-fold in the past two years.

  5. International ASDI Consortium • International Archive Network nearing the end of first phase; • Phase 1 geographic data catalog in place – compliant with ISO “minimal set” metadata standards; • Tools for streamlining capture of full metadata now available online – spatial librarian supporting researchers and others to learn and use the tools

  6. International ASDI Consortium • Outgoing Program Manager Mark Shasby honored at black tie affair; • Mantra “Give it away man” will be remembered fondly for years to come; • Consortium wishes him the best in new venture as promoter for the Red Hot Chile Pepper Revival tour……

  7. NSF Arctic Science Data Archive Growing By Leaps and Bounds!! • NSF commitment to formalized data compilation, cataloging and dissemination strengthened through expanded data coordination group; • All data from newer studies now available through showcase NSF information access web portal; • Integrated link with ASDI Clearinghouse now completed

  8. NSF Arctic Science Data Archive Growing By Leaps and Bounds!! • Priority legacy data archiving project now 20% complete – expecting catchup by end of the decade; • New web-based tools for exploring and using online resources under development; • Circum- Arctic Science Data Node network expanded with several new members; • Partnership with ASDI Consortium yielding benefits all around.
