  3. Why do you think Sullivan says he believes in the pursuit of happiness rather than the happiness itself? Do you agree with him?

  4. Sullivan thinks the pursuit of happiness is important because the journey is more important than the destination.Teacher’s note: except any reasonable answer that shows why the journey is important.

  5. Is it possible for a society to achieve equality without liberty?

  6. Some societies including communist societies have equality with many limited liberties. Extreme societies in the past practiced slavery were no rights were given to a segment of the population.Today because we are governed citizens, we do have limits that keep usfrom violating the rights of others.

  7. Can society achieve liberty without equality?

  8. Accept reasonable answers from the students.Ponder the question: Without the equality and the opportunity to succeed how can the people how can the people be free to do what they wish to do?

  9. How might you use this document to argue that the unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is the most important ideal in the Declaration?

  10. According to the cartoonist, as times change, the rights that our government should protect may change as well. This flexibility allows our nation to improve itself by protecting people’s right to healthcare.We can argue that healthcare is essential to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
