Overview of Automated Home Control System Testing and Improvements

This document details the automated home control system's installation and testing phases. During the initial setup, several flaws were identified in the application, including incorrect page redirects, broken links, and excessive pages that require further testing for enhancements. Successful communication was established with the thermostat and Insteon controllers, enabling control over heating, cooling, and various appliances. The system's scheduling control was developed, allowing users to manage appliances efficiently. All processed data will be logged for future reference.

  3. Web App Testing • In the installation, there were some immediate flaws in the app • Pages redirected incorrectly • Broken links • Unnecessary pages • More testing will reveal these flaws and we can continue to make improvements

  4. Thermostat Installation Test • Successful communication to thermostat in house • Heat + fan, cool + fan, fan only • Auto mode • Thermostat indicates that remote control is taking place

  5. Insteon Installation Test • Installed 3 Insteon controllers • Coffee maker in kitchen • Lamp in living room • Lamp in master bedroom • Successful communication on both phases

  6. Thermostat Control Complete • View status • Change mode • Change setpoint • View programming schedule • Change programming schedule • Specify serial port and thermostat address • Dummy-proofing

  7. Adding Scheduling Control • Create the database - schedule ID - device type - appliance ID - event type - time period - day - command • Command control - on - off - status Note: All processed data (history) will be saved to a log file instead of a separate database
