  4. Federal funding About $3 million each year Available to all schools with at least one grade in the K-8 range School-based comprehensive planning process is a prerequisite for funding Safe Routes to School Program What is it?

Transportation Alternatives Program What is it? • Federal funding for projects such as streetscapes in downtowns, bike paths, historic preservation and water quality improvements • Community tool for improving quality of life and creating the “place” where employees want to live and businesses want to locate 8

Transportation AlternativesProgram Key Parameters • New program in MAP-21 • Replaced the Transportation Enhancement Program • $6.5 million selected by large MPO’s with populations greater than 200,000 • $16.5 million selected by MDOT • Minimum 20% match Quick Fact: Michigan’s share of TAP funding represents about a $10 million reduction from SAFETEA-LU funding levels

  29. State Infrastructure Bank Purpose • Limited amount of money for low-interest loans for eligible transportation improvements - approximately $17 million • Complements traditional funding techniques and serves as a tool to meet urgent project-financing demands
