  2. What is Deforestation? • Deforestation is the permanent destruction of indigenous forests and woodlands. • In other words it is the clearing of forests or trees.

  4. Why is this important to me? • Deforestation is a important issue to me because over the years I have seen a decline of trees in many places. • That made me think, the trees are one of earths most important resources. • They produce oxygen, houses and the paper right in front of you.

  5. My Global Action Plan

What’s My Plan? • Myplan was to plant a tree, instead of donating money, to help with deforestation. • I called Berkley's Public Works Department to talk to a person who runs the tree board. • I had to tell them why I wanted to plant a tree. Then I went in one morning to get a list of trees allowed to be planted In Berkley.

  7. Plan continued • Then I went to Home Depot to get a tree. • The nice guy from Berkley’s Public Works Department made me a spot to plant the tree. • Then I dug in and planted the tree.

  9. My Measurable Goal • My goal was to get one tree planted by the middle of May. If it were to be an easy task, I would plant one more every year, for years to come. • I reached my goal! • It wouldn’t have been that easy if Steve Hadley from Berkley’s Public Works Department did not help me out.

  10. Data On My Global Action Plan Progress • Cost of Whole Global Action plan. • $21.19 for the tree (White Dogwood). • $5.99 for the dirt. • $7.99 for the Shovel. • The total was • $35.17

  11. Obstacles • The biggest obstacle I faced was that I could not find a place to plant the tree. It took me over a month to get situated on the spot. • Another obstacle was getting a tree that was the right type.

  12. Frustrations • I got very frustrated because I thought that I might not get my global action plan done in time.

  13. Triumphant Moment • A triumphant moment was when I finished planting the tree. At that moment, I realized that I reached my goal, which I was not sure if I would or not.
