  3. DEQ Staff Drone Operation Requirements • FAA certification via 14 C.F.R. Part 107 • Requires Part 107 exam and application submittal Or • Current part 61 pilot status and completion of safety course • NC DOT UAS Permit • Requires NCDOT UAS Knowledge Test • Demonstrated proficiency with the airframe

  4. Private Property • Every effort made to avoid private property • Accidental private captures should not be disseminated • Accidental private captures should be masked and erased

  5. Data Collection / Handling • No cloud solutions • SD card • Local analysis • Raw intermediate data on Storsimple, warehouse, OneDrive type solution

  10. Marine fisheries – Benthic Habitat Mapping • Utilize high resolution imagery to map estuarine bottom type • Traditional methods average 10 acres per day • UAS can collect 600 acres in two hour window around low tide • Can implement multiple sensor types to increase accuracy

  12. Comparison of Drone/UAV vs Traditional ImageryGrid 3 Preliminary Results 2016 NAIP Imagery = 6 inch resolution. Not flown at favorable tide for mapping strata Drone/UAV data = 2.3 inch resolution. Able to clearly discern Shellfish and SAV – Major aspects of program.
