Kindergarten Readiness Summit 2010 • Over 270 in attendance representing • All public school districts in Montgomery Co • Catholic Schools • Charter Schools • Neighboring Counties • Leadership from Early Care and Education • Business and Political Leaders • Higher Education • ODE • Other stakeholders

  3. What the Survey Showed Us We had no common- • Definition of readiness • Kindergarten entry practices • No transition tool • Outside of the KRA-L, no common assessment practices • High levels of consensus around what young children should know and be able to do upon at kindergarten entry

  4. Introduced the Ready Formula Ready Families + Ready Communities + Ready School = Ready Children

Where We Can Have an Impact Where are children served prior to coming to kindergarten? • All Public Preschool Programs - 4% • Head Start, Early Head Start - 4% • Licensed Family Childcare - 4% • Licensed Child Care Centers and Preschools - 23 % • Parental care - 40% • Unlicensed, Unregulated Care - 25% 35 % in Regulated Care

  6. Impacting the Quality of Early Care and Education • The most consistent means of measuring quality is the Step Up to Quality Program. • In Montgomery County 41 programs are currently Star Rated. • 3-Star Programs: 9 • 2-Star Programs: 14 • 1-Star Programs: 18

  7. Developing the Readiness Commitment • Group consensus of formula and attributes list during the 2010 Summit • Compared wording to Early Learning Content Standards and common readiness assessments • Compared wording with the Common Core Standards • Vetted changes through a stakeholders subcommittee representing early care and education, P-12 education, higher education and other stakeholders and came to a consensus.
