  1. Seismic wave Propagation and Imaging in Complex media: a European network • Sylvette BONNEFOY-CLAUDET • Experienced Researcher • Host Institution: FMFI Bratislava • Place of Origin: Grenoble, France • Appointment Time: October 2004 • Project:Analysis and numerical modeling of seismic motion in the Colfiorito Basin, Central Italy • (Site effects - Array analysis - Finite-differences Method) • Task Groups: Local scale • Cooperation: INGV Roma, Italy

  2. Project Scope The goal of this project is to explain the peculiarities of the earthquake motion in Colfiorito basin Sedimentary site Rock site 30 seconds 30 seconds

  3. Main Results The long duration of the horizontal ground motion in Colfiorito basin is mainly due to diffracted surface waves along the entire border of the basin 1.3 Hz Joint array analysis and time-frequency analysis EW component 1 Hz 0.7 Hz

  4. Outlook 1:1:1 scale N z-axis exaggerated The position of the earthquake source affects the seismic ground motion • Identify which source parameters (magnitude, depth, azimuth, epicentral distance) mainly affect generation of the edge surface waves • Use 3D numerical simulations of the seismic motion using finite-differences scheme Geometry Material parameters N
