  6. Competition is Hurting Right Now … Symantec Challenges Symantec’s earnings release on May 2nd: Backup and Archiving business declined 3% year-on-year. Following this announcement, there has been a shakeup in the Executive team managing this business unit - CEO was sacked for poor performance. Worst news is ahead for EV customers on older versions of the product. Symantec customers are facing technical challenges as they are asked to move to the 64 bit EV10- Vivisimo search engine rather than Altavista. However, IBM announced on May that it has acquired Vivisimo as of April 25th and this will cause customers to become concerned about the stability of this platform. HP Autonomy Meltdown Autonomy CEO, has left the company due to the Autonomy acquisition failing to meet expectations. Executive Staff also left and press reports have estimated that 33% of the Autonomy work force has left the company in the last year. EMC Never Been Stronger Technically strong – Commercially Superior – One EMC Solutions – We can & do Win Gartner comments - Customers report support is not responsive, even in the face of substantial issues they are ignored until they are escalated. Customers report that it takes a big effort to get Autonomy to respond. Feedback from clients and prospects indicates that the sales teams can be difficult to negotiate with, that the product is expensive, and that sales is not selling the right solution to the problem.
  7. ... & some aren’t immediately obvious ... ‘Still need Purpose Built Archiving even with Cloud Mail Services’
  8. ...but have capability. Native archiving capabilities in Exchange 2010 raises awareness of email archiving as a key best practice . Most organizations will want additional and more sophisticated capabilities that will drive them to third-party solutions, both on-premise and cloud-based. Exchange 2010’s archiving capabilities provide a number of useful features. However, archiving in Exchange 2010 does not include a variety of capabilities that many organizations will require. single-instance storage archival of data types other than email sophisticated e-discovery capabilities granular legal hold functionality centralization of archives sufficiently rigorous compliance capabilities. NB: native archiving in Exchange 2010 may be more expensive than the use of third-party solutions. Customers still need purpose built Archiving even with Microsoft Exchange 2010
