  2. Monday TAPE the rubric on the next clean RIGHT hand side page (I will bring tape around) Add your heading in the TOP RIGHT hand corner On the next page set up your bellwork pages Use one page, divide it into FOUR spaces (M, T, W, TH)

  3. MondayEnter quietly, sit down, start bell work, no talking • In your own words explain WHY the following sentences are incorrect: 1. In the Batman series the Joker is one of the fiend he has to fight to keep Gotham City safe. 2. On CSI, a detective conclude that the suspect was guilty after he reviewed all the evidence. 3. It is hard to read about how many indignity African Americans had to suffer before and during the Civil Rights movement. • THEN, write how to fix the mistake. (HINT: There is only 1 mistake per sentence)

  4. MondayEnter quietly, sit down, start bellwork, no talking Respond to the following prompt with a detailed paragraph: “One place I want to visit is…” This becomes your TOPIC sentence. The rest of the sentences should be details about your topic.

  6. Wednesday Enter quietly, sit down, start bellwork, no talking Read this exemplar from Hunger Games Using context clues what do you think “breached” means? What do you think the author means by this statement?

  7. Thursday Enter quietly, sit down, start bellwork, no talking “Today I give excellence, respect and self-control.” Williston Tiger Pledge EXPLAIN what YOU think this quote means. Be detailed and specific.

  8. CHAPTER 14 – Create a title Begin a Plot diagram for what we have read so far in the Hunger Games; you need exposition, setting, and rising action

CHAPTER 15 – Create a title • GRAMMAR FOCUS!! • Read back through the chapter. • Identify and write and example of each type of sentence listed below (must include page numbers!): • Simple – ONE complete sentence • Compound – TWO complete sentences joined by a conjunction (and, but, or) • Complex – one independent clause and one dependant clause • Declarative - statement • Exclamatory - ! • Interrogative - ? • Imperative - command

CHAPTER 16 – Create a title • GRAMMAR FOCUS!! • Parts of Speech • Identify two of each of the following using the chapter (you must include page numbers) • Noun – person, place, thing, or idea • Verb – action or linking • Adjective – describes a noun • Adverb – describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb • Preposition – starts a prepositional phrase (on, in, under, over, etc.) • Conjunction – JOINING words • Pronoun – takes the place of a noun • Interjection – starts a sentence, one or two words that show strong emotion

CHAPTER 17 – Create a title • GRAMMAR FOCUS!! • Figurative Language • Identify as many of the following as you can in the chapter (include page numbers) • Simile – compares using like or as • Metaphor – compares without using like or as • Personification – gives human characteristics to non-human things • Hyperbole – exaggeration • Onomatopoeia – words for sounds (buzz, bang, honk) • Imagery - descriptive words that let us see, hear, feel, taste, or smell through the words used
