Factors that Affect the Functioning of the Heater in your Car

The heater in your car is an important component, especially during the cold days as it maintains the right temperature inside the cabin. It might malfunction due to an inadequate coolant, issues in the heater core, malfunctioning thermostat or blocked heater controls. So, see the following slides which show various factors that affect the functioning of the heater in your car.

  1. Factors That Affect the Functioning of the Heater in Your Car

  2. When it comes to having a comfortable ride there are certain components in your car which play a big role in giving you a smooth ride.

  3. Besides these components, the heater of your car is also very important for having a comfortable ride especially during the winter months.

  4. As the component is not used often chances are that it may malfunction suddenly and blow cold air instead of hot air.

  5. Here are the factors that affect the functioning of the heater in your car.

  6. Inadequate coolant

  7. The coolant is one of the most important fluid in your car as It not only helps in keeping the engine cool but also plays an equally important role in the functioning of the heater.

  8. The coolant is brought over from the engine during the winter to the heater core to help in the blowing of hot air inside the car.

  9. However, if you experience cool air blowing continuously, then you must inspect the coolant level as a low quantity of coolant can affect the functioning of the heater.

  10. Issues in the heater core

  11. Whenever the heater malfunctions and blows cool air instead of hot air, the issue can also be caused due to problems in the heater core.

  12. Moreover, the coolant may not be traveling through the heater core properly and the air from the blower motor may not be reaching the heater core or there might be a clog somewhere.

  13. However, if the coolant level is adequate and the heater is blowing cold air, then there is no doubt that the issue is caused due to problems in the heater core.

  14. Malfunctioning thermostat

  15. The thermostat is an important component of your car and if you notice that the thermostat gauge remains on the “c” even after the engine has time to heat up, then the thermostat might be damaged.

  16. Whenever the thermostat is not able to send a signal to the car that the engine is warm, the coolant won't be sent over to provide heat to your heater core and the air will stay cool.

  17. However, the good thing about the thermostat is that it is very easy to fix and costs very less & you should immediately fix it by taking your car to a technician.

  18. Blocked heater controls

  19. Most of the people don't realize that after years of use, the control buttons can get jammed up and stop functioning.

  20. If the coolant level is adequate and there are no issues with the heater core, then you may need to change some of the control buttons or the heater control valve.

  21. Whenever the control valve malfunctions, then the car could get stuck blowing cool air into the cabin.
