Proposed Resolution of D0 Comment S6-485 Comments relative to low power wake-up radio bit (6.6.2 PHY Capability). <IMEC The Netherlands>
D0 Comment S6-485 • 6.6.2 PHY Capability • Comment: Currently, there is only one bit which is linked with low power wake up radio in Figure 37 of MAC proposal (PHY Capability format). • Proposed Change: More details are to be filled in for the low power radio bit. Otherwise wakeup radios will not be compatible; wakeup radio will not be able to wake up the node. <IMEC The Netherlands>
Analysis: The low power wake up radio functionality has been indicated with one bit in the PHY capability format. However, there is no other information regarding this. Featured by ultra-low power channel monitoring, it is important for the BAN radio to facilitate this functionality. To make this functionality consistent to the other rest of the MAC proposal, a control frame structure and a mode shift IE (between the normal mode and the low power wake up radio mode) are proposed in details. <IMEC The Netherlands>
Proposed Resolution: Add to “Table 3 — Frame Type and Frame Subtype field encoding” p.31, the following row in order to support low power wake-up types Table 3 — Frame Type and Frame Subtype field encoding Since we added the Frame Subtype “Low power wake-up”, then we have to define its format. So, we add the 6.4.9 paragraph at the end of the “6.4 Control type frames” . Below is the text . 6.4.9 Duty cycle control can be applied to the main radio or with a separate low power wake-up radio, as specified in 6.6.2 PHY capability. For the out-of-band low power wake-up packet, the packet format is shown in Figure 1. Figure 1:Low power wake-up packet format • Flag bit is used to indicate if there is payload part included or not. • Optional payload part contains link configuration information of the main radio, such as PHY interface selection, modulation scheme, channel, coding rate. The payload of the wake-up packet is illustrated in Figure 2. Figure 2 Wake-up packet payload (narrowband) Continued on next page <IMEC The Netherlands>
Band Index: the selected frequency band for the main radio communication Table 1 — Band Index Mapping (narrowband) • Channel index: is used to identify a certain channel in the selected frequency band. • Modulation scheme: the chosen modulation scheme Table 2 — Modulation Index Mapping (narrowband) Table 3 — Modulation Index Mapping (UWB) End of 6.4.9 <IMEC The Netherlands>
In addition we add the following entry to Table 12 Table 12 — Information elements defined in this standard Insert 6.7.15: Low Power Wake-up Radio Mode Shift IE A low power wake-up radio mode shift IE is formatted as shown in Figure 3. It is optionally contained in the Connection Request frames to enable out-of-band low power wake-up radio mode. Figure 3 Low Power Wake-up Radio Mode Shift IE Format The 4-bit low power wake-up channel ID is used to indicate a certain channel that the low power wake-up radio is to dwell on. Duty cycle indicator is used to inform the coordinator about the duty cycle control used by the low power wake-up radio. The low power wake-up radio can adopt continuous channel monitoring or follow the same duty cycle control as indicated by wakeup phase and wakeup period in the Connection Request frame 6.3.6.
