  2. Bielsko-Biała is a city in southern Poland with 175,513 inhabitants. Bielsko-Biała iscomposed of twoformercities on oppositebanks of the Biała River, Silesian Bielsko and LesserPoland's Biała, amalgamated in 1951. Both townnamesrefer to the Biała River, stemming from biel or biała, whichmeans "white" in Polish.

  3. The city is situated on the border of historic Upper Silesia and Lesser Poland at the eastern rim of the smaller CieszynSilesia region, about 60 km (37 mi) south of Katowice. Administrated within Silesian Voivodeshipsince 1999, the city was previously capital of Bielsko-BiałaVoivodeship (1975–1998). Bielsko-Białais one of the most important cities of the BeskidyEuroregion and the main city of the Bielsko Industrial Region (Polish: BielskiOkręgPrzemysłowy), part of the Upper Silesian metropolitan area.
