  1. The Benefits of ADHD Testing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a term that makes many parents nervous, understandably so. Over the years, ADHD has developed negative stigmas and connotations, particularly when diagnosed in children. Children with ADHD may be wrongfully viewed as “abnormal” or the “problem student” in their classes. Such negative stereotypes make parents wary of having their children evaluated for ADHD. With that said, stereotypes are breaking, and ADHD evaluations hold several essential benefits. 1. Evaluations provide answers: ADHD is a disorder that is widely recognized and accepted by the medical community. To that end, ADHD has a specific set of diagnostic criteria that must be met and observed by a trained professional before a diagnosis is given. Until an evaluation is completed, parents may only speculate as to the causes of their child’s “ADHD like” behaviors. Professional ADHD evaluations either confirm or reject parents’ suspicions. In either case, parents need to know what their child is facing.

  2. 2. Evaluations open doors to support: When an ADHD evaluation is given, it’s followed by a diagnosis of ADHD, or it’s not. Either way, parents can only provide their children with meaningful support when they have an accurate diagnosis. If the diagnosis confirms ADHD, a plethora of treatment options and interventions become available to a child and their parents. School programs, therapies, and medications are all available to children with diagnoses of ADHD; each is designed to help children reach their fullest potential. With a diagnosis, the costs of many services are covered in part or full by insurance and other parties. 3. Evaluations lead to lifelong success: When the source of a challenge is unknown, the chances of overcoming it are drastically reduced. An accurate ADHD evaluation and diagnosis provide valuable insight into challenging behaviors. What’s more, evaluations create opportunities for interventions and treatment that would otherwise be inaccessible. When those resources are utilized, children with diagnoses of ADHD learn, develop, and implement lifelong coping strategies that lead to improved living.

  3. ADHD is diagnosed in 11% of American children and 4.4% of adults. Though the numbers are small, ADHD is a common challenge faced by children and adults. Overcoming that challenge begins a proper understanding. Understanding begins with a professional evaluation. If you suspect that you or your child meets the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, act now. Schedule a diagnosis today and start yourself or your child on the road to success.
